Does oddball play well in Halo 5?

I think it doesn’t, for some reasons. The maps don’t fit for the gameplay, besides the fact there’s no much map rotation. It’s always the same map: Plaza, plaza and plaza, and sometimes riptide,

Well we didn’t have Oddball when the maps were made so it would be understandable that some don’t really fit that gameplay. For the map rotation, stay in the lobby after the game and then your chances of getting a new map should go up.

I thought it was fun

Were there Oddball-only maps in Halo 3 and other Halos? I remember maps having always been used for multiple game types. Like Guardian on Halo 3 was used for Slayer, King of the Hill, Oddball, and probably more.

Better than not having it. I enjoy it being back. I don’t understand why it wasn’t in at launch

The one game I played I thought was fun.

For the most part I’d say yes. They weren’t designed for Oddball so it’s understandable that there are a few flaws. The gameplay overall is really fun in my opinion and at the end of the day that’s all that matters.

It plays alright, but I agree that Plaza does come up way too often.

yeah its a good and reasonable game and usually quite fair they should keep it long term

I wonder why we didn’t seeing as it’s a fan favourite and a staple of previous titles . Maybe a veto system would help ( also in previous titles ) to help players not to repeatedly play the same map .

I didn’t see the bit you obviously did saying there should be oddball only maps . I think it’s a fair comment to give an opinion of if a game type plays well or not on halo 5s maps and a lot of people have experience the repetitiveness of getting the same map multiple times in a row. Every time I’ve played oddball on plaza all that happens is the ball is taken to the bottom of the lift and it becomes a grenade fest . Hopefully when the hcs settings are introduced to oddball it helps gameplay.

Not sure what you’re trying to say or why you’re quoting me; something appears lost in translation. I think my point is totally fair. Previous Halos had maps that were multipurpose and worked well for various game types. You didn’t need a specific map for Oddball or King of the Hill or whatever game type you were playing.

I stand by what I wrote , your lack of understanding baffles me as it’s a clear concise structured sentence. No ? I just hate how someone gives there opinion and there’s an instant backlash . I didn’t read anywhere ( because it’s not there ) there should be oddball only maps in halo 5 . Halo 5 maps play very differently, because of the new movement mechanics, so consequently an older game type will play very differently on these maps too. As the maps feel like they weren’t designed with multiple game modes in mind either . Maybe some more maps were planned for launch but weren’t implemented as the game came without a lot of content at launch due to the many issues we’ve all heard about. I agree with this opinion on how oddball plays on these maps. I love oddball . I love halo 5 I would like to give my opinion as feedback so we can open a discussion of how oddball is playing , I think the maps play well in certain game types. ( Plaza was the map mentioned) I love this map it’s probably my favourite halo 5 map , strongholds is awesome on this map , but like I stated the oddball games I’ve played on it do not play well . Maybe by opening this discussion we could all help to improve the experience for everyone? Just a thought .

And I hate it when someone assumes something that’s not there. What backlash? I was asking a legitimate question that I couldn’t fully recall the answer too, because you had things like Infection getting custom maps all the time due to its atmosphere. Did I say anything like “just deal with the maps given to you” or “you should be happy you got Oddball at all”? No. I didn’t read anywhere that OP was asking for Oddball specific maps in Halo 5 either, but if Halo 5’s maps don’t mesh well with this new Oddball, then that’s what they’d have to do to make Oddball better. And I brought up previous Halos as a comparison to bring up the solid map designs of games of old. Maybe don’t read too hard between the lines and take posts at face value.

I will say the maps feel kind of bad for the gamemode, but i’m happy it’s back. Some of them work kind of though. The map Mercy I actually believe should be removed from the playlist, as everytime I play oddball on that map it becomes less of a fight for the ball and more of a fiesta of kills until one team is fully wiped.

Agree 100% with this.

I liked oddball then, and I like it now. I think a bunch of maps work well with it actually. I’m having fun with it. Also, it’s not like in old Halo games, any maps we’re made specifically for oddball either so… Funny how people have different experiences… I’ve barely gotten Plaza lolol and I’ve played oddball a decent amount too.

I think Oddball works great for certain maps, and it’s really nice having it return. Oddball was never 100% great on every map it was played on in previous Halo games either.

As much as I didn’t touch Social Skirmish often, I’d play it more now if Oddball was tossed in and if Assault came up more.

Ranked Odd Ball would be interesting…
I played odd ball this weekend, granted it didnt flow well with certain maps and the re spawn did feel kinda long but nothing game breaking. Like in all game modes, you’re better off rolling with a 4 man crew.

They’re actually going to be changing the HCS playlist into a ranked Oddball playlist with HCS settings still applied to see how competitive play goes for it. Might work out, might not, but I’m still excited to see how it plays out.

I never thought Oddball played great in previous Halo titles and I don’t think it plays great in this one either, but it is a mode that has provided a change-of-pace as it requires some different strategies and tactics from other non-slayer based objective modes; plus, in the past it played well enough within 4v4 scenarios and on certain maps to be enjoyed by many and I’d argue that that is the case here in Halo 5 too. I’m sure 343i and Pro players/teams are trying to figure out if it’s a mode that can work within the HCS – I don’t know if it will, but we’ll find out in due time.
