Does mmr carry over across seasons?

Hi guys,

Does your mmr carry over seasons? I am.playing ffa and trying to get placed in onyx finally-i never have been despite ending onyx 1500 the last sesons i played. Last season i ended onyx 1642. Does that mean i will probably end up.placed in onyx? Or is mmr completely reset?

Confused cos several players seem to match each other for several games and end up.onyx 1700. Surely their mmr must have carried over?
