after playing H5 multiplayer for a week I found that my KDA in arena is a 2.3 with my Warzone KD 1.9. With a cumulative KD of a 1.5. I find myself becoming stressed before going into arena in fear that I’ll go negative and as a result my KDA will go down. All the time I hear alot not all but alot of people flaunt there KD. All the time I hear people say that your KD measures your skill as a player and that only bad players say that KD doesn’t matter. Now I get a 2.3 KDA spread isn’t the best but it’s certainly not the worst and it’s definitely not a negative KD, but does your KD really matter? Should people like me really be discouraged to play arena in fear of there KD dropping and being ridiculed by higher skilled players. Does your KD really determine how useful of a player you are or is there other factors to becoming a skilled player? Are you a bad player if you go negative 500 but you helped your team score the win? I would really like to know your guys thoughts.
Yes and no, it can show how good you are by having a ‘positive’ KD, but you also have to take in account just because you have a positive KD it doesn’t mean you are good as you might have a high KD due to you camping somewhere and not dying, not going for objectives just farming kills etc.
So in my opinion, yes and no.
On slayer it definitely matters because it’s literally a measure of your contribution.
In Objective? Maybe not so much. Because you can die a lot but get all the flag captures.
So just don’t worry so much about cumulative KD & just do what you gotta do in each match.
Cumulative W/L is more important imo.
Not at all. I used to try hard to get a good k/d on cod4 and waw. Now years later what have I got to show for it?
just enjoy the game no one cares what your k/d is.

If you are getting stressed. Then simply stop caring. (This does not mean play like poop on purpose) you win some you loss some. Its a hobby you are not getting payed for so it shouldn’t be stressing you kid. Only “try hards” will ever take the time to call you ouut on how good or bad it is… don’t worry too much

To answer your other questions. 1 it is only a measurement if you ONLY play slayer and breakout. But if you play “team arena” i wouldn’t sweat it. 2 no you are not a bad player because your death might have given your team the distraction needed to score the flag etc etc
In my opinion on your k/d making a difference or not, it honestly doesn’t. To me, a k/d is just a number. Like a couple others, said before me, play the game the way you want to play it that makes you comfortable and play it like as if there wasn’t a k/d ratio to begin with.

Thanks man
it doesn’t say anything about skill of the player, but about his playstyle
I have a horrible KD. I think that people should STRESS out over it though…it is just a game. No point having years taken off your life for it.
KD and KDA doesnt mean too much. Generally speaking it would be best to have a KD ration of at least 1 (get 1 kill everytime you die) and a KDA (get 1 more kill than total deaths a game) of at least 1. The reason for this is, that Halo is a team effort. It takes a team to beat another team. No matter how good each of the players are individually, a team of decent players will stand a chance if they use team work ( much like traditional sports). For example, if you are the scout or the leader in charges your KD and KDA will suffer, however, if you are the person that is preventing you from getting flanked your KD and KDA should be considerably better.
Now what I consider a good indication of skill is the following:
-Accuracy of precision weapons (pistol/dmr/BR/etc.). Only for arena game types, warzone is too big and accuracy will suffer.
-Amount of perfect kills per game. (I hope this stat gets added)
-Win % (why? because Halo is about how good you do as a team and individually)
In addition to these, for specific game types look at how many times you killed a flag carrier or returned a flag or other such stats.
I do not know who makes the decisions at 343, but the service record stat KDA is absolutely stupid. What happened with just showing the K/D and W/L ratios?
Apparently in Halo 5, the KDA formula is ((K+(A/3)-D)/GamesPlayed). Does that really say any relevant info? No not really, at least not to me.

I only look at people’s win percentage. Over 50% is average, over 60% is good and over 70% is really good. That’s my rule of thumb, but even that isn’t perfect because plenty of people will play game types with friends who aren’t that good at Halo and I understand that. In order to win a match in Halo, your team must have a mix of attackers and defenders. You need 2 people to be good at rushing in and you need 2 people to be good at defending. For example, in slayer the attackers should rush the power weapons and in objective they should rush the objective. The defenders either take advantage of the distraction the attacker makes or covers the attacker after he/she gets the power weapon or objective. If you are the attacker I would expect you to have a lower K/D then the defenders in your group. And I won’t know your play style until I play you.
Kd leaves a good impression on you as a skilled player, but in the long run it doesn’t matter. Now skill is what you should care about. By the way no one should stress over kd or skill rating;life is stressful enough. Just remember that it is a game and that you should be having fun…
In objectives modes KD means virtually nothing. Over all the years of playing games, I have seen players get absolutely destroyed and still win the game because they were actually trying to capture the objective.
Halo never ever used to have this obsession with KD ever until after COD. Seriously think back to playing H2 and H3 online, I never ever in all my games heard anyone give any crap about kd ever.
Its all opinion or you could go by this rule if you have a high kd it matter but if its low you doesn’t matter at all.

I believe its assist divided by 4 not 3. What KDA is suppose to tell you is how beneficial you are on average per game based on how much kills/assist/deaths you get. Basically how positive you go each game and if you participate in team shooting.

Honestly, for Slayer KDA matters, for Arena win percentage is looked at by most. Summary, it’s all a matter of opinion.
In slayer games where kills matter ? Yes. In objective ? Not so much imo.
