Does "Join iN" encourage QUITTING?

As you know, Join In MM will be in Halo 4. But, how will this effect Halo exactly?

The quit ban in Reach was a GREAT thing, it stopped people from quitting as much and ruining the games. Now that there is join in MM, people may be more incline to quit because other players will join in.

You may say how is this bad? First off the game may freeze/lag to load more players and the more people that quit, the more likely you will NOT play a new game.

If you every play GOW3, you know how flawed the join in Matchmaking is and your character “skins” glitch joining in a game in progress.

I think that there should be some kind of quit ban in Halo 4 and join in MM should be optional. I know I would ALWAYS want to play new games and not ranked.

Not really, quitting encourages further quitting.

That is kind of what I mean. We could start having games where your team could change 2 times over from people joining and quitting.

People should still not feel free to quit games.

That what i was thinking as well… As long as they still hand out quit bans then we should be ok.

You think the quit ban was a great thing? wow…

> You think the quit ban was a great thing? wow…

Yes I do, because it helped lessen the amount of times people quit which was annoying in Reach and really every Halo game.

What game were you playing?

The sad fact is you can’t stop quitting. Trying to stop quitting not only does nothing but they started MM ban periods. Absurd. Hopefully 343 learned from that. I think they have and I like the join in progress idea.

I don’t think it was great for the ones with connection issues. But something needs to be in place otherwise the join in session feature will say “oh well i can quit out someone will just replace me”

The quit ban dosen’t work it never worked.
Still have people quitting ALL the time, played 2 hours last night and couple of hours today and players had quit in most of them.

Plus the ban all it achieves is decress the numbers of players.
The ban was draconian didn’t work and they are trying something different.
and if it doesnt work they can stop it but to assume it wont work out right is little bit narrow minded.

No one should be forced to stay in a match or face disciplinary action in a videogame. That is just down right ridiculous. We buy the game, we pay for Xbox Live, and there is a system that locks you out of matchmaking because you have 3 or more incomplete games for whatever reason in one session? Preposterous. This is just one of the many mistakes made in Reach. It served as a minor inconvenience at best. Quitting was and still is rampant and always will be. The only thing that can be done about it is to give more incentive to actually stay in the match.

People “quit” for a variety of reasons. Some I don’t necessarily agree with, some I feel are completely valid reasons, and others are just beyond the players control. No one should ever be forced to stay in a match they are not enjoying, and no one should ever be punished for being disconnected from a bad host or accidental betrayal.

Every popular FPS uses drop in drop out nowadays. From CoD to Gears of War to Left 4 Dead to Battlefield. The way Halo 4 can implement it properly and make everyone happy is to make it a choice. If I want to start a match from beginning to end, I can select that. If I want to join a game in mid session I can do a quick match. The only place it should not be is in ranked. Otherwise, I have no probems with DiDo and I think it’s far superior to the quit ban.

Not necessarily.

To me, what encourages me to quit a game would be if something pops up, or if I am not enjoying a game due to disconnections, lack of players, teams are not setup due to poor matchmaking, etc…

Join-in only keeps the unbalanced numbers down to a minimum. If the devs can do a good matchmaking system, make a good netcode(or make dedicated server) to prevent disconnects, the only thing stopping a player from playing would be if something needs their attention to get away from the game, or if they simply don’t want to play.

Constant quitters is just something that every games MM will have to deal with. Very few people are going to stay in a game if they are getting worked. Its just no fun. If Halo 4 ends up having a ranked playlist then quitting in it should be where the harshest penalties should be dished out.

No it didn’t

doesn’t encourage quitting, but puts players who join in into a bad spot.
Make it optional. Problem solved.

yea. it does encourage quitting. i’m fine with join in for social games. but ranked should give harsh penalties for quitting and not allow people to join mid game.

It will be like in every other game. Massive rage quit wave when you get dominated and then those poor players are forced to join in to already lost match. Well… it’s something I can deal with… Hopefully some playlists disable join in ability and offer massive penalty if quitted (like loss of rank, spartan points or 15 min [or more] time ban.

We can only hope…

This fits nicely.
Halo2’s matchmaking system was fresh, Halo: Reach’s is antiquated.

Having said that, Arena and MLG type playlists should discourage quitting/not support drop-in/out with the majority of the remaining playlists supporting the feature.
