Hello
I really like the Hellcat helmet variants - they’re pretty cohesive with just about any type of armor. However, its own armor seems too small and flimsy to fit with this rigid, bulky-looking helmet. For a helmet that is basically in the shape of a rectangle, I would expect an armor more thick and heavy looking, with large shoulders and chest. The hellcat armor has some of the smallest shoulderguards I have seen on any armor set, and the “straps” going over the upper shoulder look thin and unsupported, even aesthetic. The chest, after re-examining, I am content with - it looks really cool actually - but I just can’t get over those tiny shoulders.
I’m considering, for my final set, substituting hellcat armor with cypher, as I like the bulkier juggernaut feel to it. Are there any other armors you would suggest that might fit better with the hellcat helmet?
Thank you.
Whatever you feel like would work? If you want bulky, why not Security? Maybe try and get Centurion if you don’t have it already.
Security is pretty good, I’m also looking at Orbital and Interceptor.
I think 343 is slowly getting rid of big shoulderguards. Reach had a lot of big ones, H4 had a few, and now there are only like 2 sets that have large shoulders, and those are the H4 scout-style plate ones.
It makes me sad
The big shoulders weren’t reasonable. They clipped and realistically they would make shouldering a weapon hard.
That’s true, but I guess I like the more rustic approach to armor.
The basic idea of armor in H4&5 seems to be simply to project a shield, and maybe at some point block a bullet or two. The armor in Reach (that’s the farthest back I ever played extensively) was more functional - it often had storage compartments, and the heaviest protection seemed to be where you would get shot at the most - on the left shoulder and the chest.
It was sort of reminiscent of older styles of combat, where a warrior might only be armored on the left arm and shoulder, because when in melee combat, you would traditionally face your left side forward and wield a weapon in the right hand. This is somewhat coincidentally effective in ranged weapon combat, because you still face your left side forward while shooting a gun (usually).
This is how I would take to shoulders in Reach - I would usually have Commando on left and ODST on right. ODST is pretty compact shoulder armor, so shouldering a gun wouldn’t be so hard, and commando covers part of the neck region too, so if you’re holding a chain gun turret or something, you have pretty good physical coverage all around.
And yes, the armor is less relevant in Halo because shields do most of the work, but I like to think that my armor is actually effective as armor, and not just a shield projector.
If you want to be realistic, why does someone with tiny and unprotecting armor take the same amount of damage from guns as someone with the biggest and thickest armor, when both of their shields are down?
And anyway, they’re spartans - they’ll figure it out.
I like the hellcat better than any of the other armors I have atm, but I hate the helmet. I just use my MK 6 helmet instead, haven’t gotten a helmet I like better yet. Personal preference is all it comes down to.
I like the hellcat armor, but I don’t like the helmet
