Does Halo need to be rated M for mature?

With Halo Infinite likely being Teen do you feel it will cause the game to suffer in any way? SacredIconHalo discusses.

Honestly I don’t really think it makes all that much of a difference. Maybe that’s me being ignorant to the differences of ratings but they’ve never been something I judge a game off of.

I think possible to make a darker/grittier game without it being a M rating. Yeah some sacrifices have to be made in order to get there for sure.

There seems to be this huge fascination about what rating the game needs. I just don’t really get the whole fuss around it

Yes, it does need to be M rated.

Blood splatter, general “grit” seen in past Halo games and light swearing are synonymous with Halo for a lot of people and having that be omitted from the game weakens the Halo experience overall. Especially when it comes from the flood. HiddenXperia cringed on camera on one of his recent videos when the idea of T for Teen flood was mentioned.

For those doubtful about the light swearing, Halo 3 had “wipe those b**tards off the deck” on the mission Crows Nest over the radio as you enter the hangar bay with the Phantom. Not to mention Sergeant Johnson, a Halo icon. They are just two examples.

All the main Halo games apart from Halo 5 have been M rated. All of them. Not just the ones with flood in. All of them apart from Halo 5.

People said when it was announced Halo 5 was T rated that this wouldn’t affect the content of the game… even though game ratings are based on content. Anyway, this was disproven when the game launched, because things like blood splatter, grit, light swearing etc. were missing from the game.

The reason this issue is prominent in the community regarding Halo Infinite is because Halo 5 confirmed our worst fears with the T rating when it launched, and we don’t want a repeat of that situation.

343’s marketing is all about “spiritual reboot” and “classic art style.” Blood splatter etc. is synonymous with these objectives and we should not have to install mods to the PC version of this game when it releases just so we can have these things. Not to mention console players don’t have access to the luxury of mods to add things like blood splatter.

Let’s get blood splats etc. in Halo Infinite. If that means it is M rated, so be it. Previous Halo games hardly struggled with sales with this rating - they were hailed in terms of sales numbers. The rating is less important than ever as a commercial decision because the free-to-play multiplayer and Gamepass for the campaign means kids will have access to the game anyway either as a free multiplayer download or through their Gamepass subscription.

Now Joseph Staten is Campaign Project Lead I hope he can champion these points on behalf of the community so we can have the Halo experience we are all hoping for.

Well Halo’s game play in general is a soft M. Like it’s not like Gears. Halo’s story has always been gritty giving it M elements. I personally don’t care that much if it’s T but if they hold back on certain things then I’ll have a problem with it. I do wish they add in old Halo elements because I’m worried Infinite is going to be a “kids” shooter like
Fortnite.

I think Infinite will be M if the Flood are in the game. It would completely pull me out of the experience if the Flood didn’t break apart, and Blood and Gore is pretty much a guaranteed M.

I don’t think it will matter much whether or not is’t rated M or T as Halo has always been mild. Combat Evolved was almost T until the Flood showed up and the Flood isn’t even the bad.

I personally despise that (downplayed) excuse for “gaming”… Video games have their own tiers. E equals everyone is happy (bottom tier for coherent beings. ) M equals most parents may not care if you play but be respectful online and enjoy the MATURE (Graphics Gore Cussing and) Grit (upper tier for teens and older…) this is my interpretation and belief of the System. (- Fortnite)

Agreed, the flood combat forms exploding is really no different from squashing a cockroach on the floor. And If you would never squash a roach because it’s “too violent”, you shouldn’t be playing M games OR T games

Infinite will probably be rated T, yeah.
