I don’t know if this has already been answered, but with Infinite’s multiplayer being free-to-play, will an Xbox Live Gold Subscription still be required to access the multiplayer?
Hasn’t been answered yet, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it did. Even other F2P games like Apex and Fortnite require Gold.
I can’t really think of any multiplayer game that doesn’t require Gold. As a matter of fact I’m pretty sure Xbox Live Gold is required to play multiplayer online.
A quick Google search and yeah, you need Gold to play online.
So yeah, you’ll need Gold
Depends, Xbox will obviously still be paid online since there not dropping Xbox Live Gold yet sadly but PC has always been free online…makes me wish it was free to play on consoles since the online paid service feels out-dated.
Hope it’s dropped before November 8th…just got my email stating my gold membership will be renewed by then
Most likely. Free-to-play doesn’t exclude gold and knowing Microsoft, I doubt Halo Infinite will be an exception.
Any game that requires matchmaking will require Gold. That is specifically stated in all Xbox Live ToS, and why LAN play has been removed from almost everything.
Can’t get those sweet subscription $ from people who play on LAN.

Um yes? It works like that for all online games
Probably will require gold i remember back in the days of xbox 360 i think it was Happy wars that never needed a subscription to play online but that was a once in a blue moon situation.
Is the multiplayer even free if you are required to pay something to play it?
You’ll most likely need Gold to play but the Multiplayer itself will be free

Yes and no, it depends how you look at it. We need Xbox Live Gold to play all multiplayer games on Xbox consoles. Halo Infinite’s multiplayer is free to play at no extra cost. I’ve always said it should be worded that way.

One could always use the money they were going to use for seriesx plus the gold (console tax) savimgs and join the pc crowd. Seems like it will pay for itself after a few years and is upgradable umlike thr console.
The free-to-play moniker refers to the purchase of the game itself. That is to say, you won’t have to buy Halo Infinite in order to play the multiplayer. However, you’ll still need an active Gold subscription to Xbox Live in order to play online, as with all other games.
EDIT: I know it’s a little confusing, but just remember that in this scenario you’re not paying for the game itself, but rather the service that the game’s multiplayer runs on.
At the moment, games do require Gold to play online, but some evidence points to Microsoft eventually removing the Gold program altogether. This can be seen in the gradual removal of Gold subscription payment options as we near the end of the year. You’ll notice there are now only the 3-month and 1-month options, when before there were 12-month and 6-month options which have since been removed. Hopefully, this means Microsoft is slowly inching its way out of the Gold system and possibly ending it officially at the Series X’s launch date.

Agree. I play MCC on pc without gold. Thinking about picking up a series s but the gold subscription is a factor. I’ve played pc the last couple of years, long enough to think it’s silly to go back to paying extra for multiplayer.
It probably will require gold.

It’s been suggested that Xbox Game Pass may replace Xbox Live Gold. Right now Microsoft offers both, but they might phase out Xbox Live Gold as a separate subscription and instead just bundle it with Game Pass (kind of like what they do now with Game Pass Ultimate).

Many of us own PC, consoles…still prefer playing on console and it’s just easier to convince friends to play on console than on PC when playing locally.

Know what you mean. I feel like the main reason to get gold was ‘games for gold’ free games but most of those I either own…or games get picked, most people usually complain and people tend to be more fussed about Game Pass but personally have no interest in GP. Feel like XLG should be dropped, then let others choose to pick GP without forcing players to pay for online.
