Does Halo 5 Need Reach progression system?

So If 343 is going to stick with the noob freindly mind set than Halo 5 needs to have some sort of long term progression system and i’m not talking about the SR crap from Halo 4. Reach was so successful because of the progression system it had, honestly if Reach didn’t have it I probably would’ve quite playing it after i got the achievements. Halo 3 and Halo 2 didn’t need this because of the ranking system and the amount of skill it took too play. I would prefer too see a mixture of both ranking and a long term progression system but who knows what 343 will do.

what do you guys think?

Buy armour through credits, Reach style. I loved that method of unlocking armour.
Visible ranked playlists for competitive players, some unranked/social too.
That’s my ideal scenario , but only visible win-based ranks is a must.

I would like a refined version of Halo 5’s ranking system currently, and Reach’s leveling system. Having military ranks made it a lot more cooler.

this. It was a really cool way to earn armor with a skill based in game currency.

I’d like a system like a mixture of credits and challenges/achievements to unlock armor, like a mix of Halo 3 and Reach.

As as far as ranking, I see a similar system that was in the Halo 5 beta. However, it can sort of be effected by individual performance, not just team performance, although team performance helps with ranking up quicker.

I say MVP of winning team gets the most progression, and the rest get a little lower, but similar among all. If one does terribly, like one or two kills, or none at all, with a staggering amount of deaths, they get no progression.

On the topic of losing team, the MVP of that team gets the minimum progression, a little less than misc. of winning team, to award pulling their weight amongst the defeated. The rest of them get no progression. The one who is in a similar situation to the garbage player on the winning team would get negative progression, takes away points.

Lets have the 3 systems combined: a huge armory that has pieces unlocked by earning achievements (H3), completing commendations (H4) or by just buying them with in-game currency (Reach)

What would be so difficult about skill based ranking system, such as that in H2 or H3 where players- based upon win/loss/experience gained records are similarly playing eachother. This way you’re not stuck playing some crazy team that is averaging 4 wins per loss if you’re at 1.65

It’s going to have something similar. Such an industry standard at this point that it’s basically required.

I’m just wanting something I can play through out the year on a daily basis and not be able to get everything in less then a month like H4. It took me 10 months just to get inheritor in halo reach so any progression system less than that and I’ll be unhappy :frowning:

I friggin loved Reach’s progression system, but the current Halo 5 one is just fine. As long as the progression system will take a very, very long time to get through, like Reach had, I’ll be fine.

Reach was ‘meh’, but all you needed was time, not skill. Which I dislike.

Reach was not successful because of the ranking system or really successful at all. The ranking systems was fun for the first few levels until it took 15 years to rank up.

Why should you receive anything for losing? Maybe as a background rank it would be fine, but 1-50 is the best choice.

I agree, 1-50 is the best choice. It should be win= progress, loss=digress. I could understand Loss at 1st place= barely digress where the rest digress further depending upon position on team.

Would like to have military ranks instead of the SR thing. Going for a rank like general or what ever was much more exciting than going for level 25 or whatever. its like, ooh yay, another number on my spartan rank!

There needs to be a combination or a separation of Reach and Halo 5’s ranking system. There is a love/hate for both, but each have their benefits.

mixture of both… and bring back haunted helmet!!! and i wish they would do away with the SR… not a fan of it…but since i just started reading new blood… it doesn’t seem likely…

It took forever to rank up in Halo Rach, worst part is that your skill had little to no impact at all!

Yes but along with a competitive skill ranking also. I liked that Reach’s progression system took a very long time to complete. It gave the hardcore veteran players something to keep playing for. I also really liked the armour unlock system in Reach. Commendations were also great because they actually made you feel like you achieved something when you maxed them out. So many games set the bar so low in that department it felt refreshing seeing that you need 32,000 kills with a certain type of weapon to max out an a commendation.

After a certain point, Reach’s progression system became way too grind-y. Even at the higher levels, there needs to be shorter mile-markers between ranks to give a sense of progress.

it should definitely take longer to reach max rank, along with some icons instead of these boring sr numbers.
