As I hurried home from college to try the new updated big team battle mode I silently wondered to myself what the new maps would be like. As I loaded up the xbox popped in the disk and awaited the new glory of big team battle and exciting new levels I was surprised to find I recognized the floor plan to the first map I was placed in. In fact it took me back to Halo 2… you could almost feel like I was rushing “headlong” into a flash back. However, as I played the map, which I might add headlong was one of my favorites back in H2, something seemed to be missing. It wasn’t the floor plan (it was the exact same) it wasn’t the gameplay (I absolutely love H5’s mechanics) it was the scenery. Headlong in H2 and all of the maps in H2 and H3 made extensive use of texturing and bump maps. This provided a visually entertaining and pleasing battlefield on which to frag your friends.
However, as I played the new map it felt bland, blank and unexciting. Where once I was faced with cement, pavement, dirt, and skyscrapers I was faced with texture-less blobs of gray yellow and brown. It felt like 343 had taken the art of texturing and put it in a “Guillotine” severing it from map making all together. In fact where the floor plan for Guillotine is essentially Headlong I’m surprised 343 didn’t use that extra time to create an extremely eye pleasing, and well textured map.
Halo 5 is a fun game and as multiple levels of the campaign have proven the improved engine has wonderful bump map and texture rendering capabilities. This leads me to wonder why we have such boring, texture-less maps (Guillotine, Pegasus, etc.) . I hope 343 will fix these issues in the future.
To be fair, they had limited time with forge to make to map. A forge map rarely looks as good as a studio map. It looks GOOD in halo 5. That’s about it.
It was made in forge so its not gonna look super textured, does nobody do any research before complaining. Personally I prefer it to classic headlong for the gameplay itself.
Why are they putting out forged maps as official maps? I don’t even play forge in my spare time why do I want to play it in matchmaking?
And to be honest I didn’t do my research, I just assumed they’d only release non forged official maps as official matchmaking maps. Forge looks like crap.

They’re not putting out Forge maps as official maps… It does show that you haven’t done your research, otherwise you would know that these maps are being used to give us BTB while actual maps are being created. Honestly, the maps are fun, and they show off how much we can do with Halo 5’s Forge. I’m having a blast with them, and will continue playing BTB.
Headlong - I’m not sure how an explanation could be necessary if one visits the links provided in the OP. One is from Halo 2 and the other is from Lego Land.
Am I the only person who actually really likes the look of guillotine. I think that considering its a forge map it looks quite funky and stylized.
Its forge, its never going to look as good as a studio map and it was a forge map that was created in a short amount of time aswell. Its not really fair to compare.
Everybody seems to want cluttered, gritty textures it seems.

That makes no sense. Your not playing forge, your playing on a forged map.
The fact weather you like to forge or not shouldn’t affect your appreciation of a map.

The guy who forged it did a fantastic job, until 343 screwed it up by being like “lets just get that warthog out of here and throw a mantis in because reasons”
Headlong was never a good map to begin with. The only thing that made headlong, headlong were the super jumps. h2 had tons of other better maps like ascension, sanctuary, turf, midship, elongation, warlock, blood gulch, zanzibar, lockout etc etc. Headlong was not a great map in my opinion. Why they made a remake I have no idea. Would have been more satisfied with a better pit, guardian etc.

-Yoink- the Mantis. Jesus that thing is so annoying…most annoying when you make the mistake of walking around in it. Great to T-bag in though, I will give it that much.
