Does FFA make sense with power weapons?

I’m curious your thoughts on this. I’ve always just taken it for granted that, yeah, power weapons help map flow and movement and such, and reward map control. But I’m beginning to question if they truly belong in FFA. There is no map control in FFA. The spawns and general positioning are random. How can one person ‘control’ a map anyway? What do power weapons encourage in FFA that is positive? Like, Rockets on Empire - 4 people go for them, and who the winner is, while based much in skill, also highly luck-based. In a hypothetical situation where a Champion faces off against 5 Gold players, even the Champion cannot guarantee securing rockets with confidence provided that the other players attempt to get them as well.

Of course, I am an average player, so I don’t know highly competitive (upper Onyx/Champion) play nuances. If you disagree maybe you could enlighten me? Seems like BR/Carbine/DMR pickups is enough of a movement incentive for such a “race to kills” type of mode. 1v1’s do happen and they show on the scoreboard who is best, but let’s be honest, FFA is pretty random compared to any team mode. Does it need more randomness with power weapons?

Why yes, yes it does - forces map movement (the Control element you are talking about). AR pistol start however does not make sense - BR works so much better.

It’s all subjective

Doesn’t having BRs and such on the map force movement as well though, without introducing too many random encounters?

Having power weapons in FFA forces a different kind of control, player control. In FFA, you are correct, there is no real map control but an individual with a power weapon tips the scale making them the new objective. The guy with the rockets becomes a bigger threat than the other players because everyone knows that individuals score will creep up. This, in it’s own right, forces an individual player to place importance on power weapons and to maintain awareness of them. Those who ignore the power weapons may not lose, but they will have a hard time winning.
