I’ve completed three so far and my challenge hasn’t advanced, but I’ve won one and that did advance the challenge. Do we seriously have to win this garbage game mode to get this challenge? Why not just complete if it says complete?

No, but this challenge is currently bugged and you have to stay for the whole match for it to progress. Don’t leave early.
