Does anyone here actually fire the AR in bursts?

…rather than holding down shoot?

Every time I watch a pro stream on twitch they seem to burst fire their AR. Not sure why. Havent tested it myself.

apparently” it makes the AR more accurate. I’m not sure since if you’re in a firefight, wouldn’t your aim be knocked off if you’re also getting shot?

If they are farther away then yeah but if I can zoom then no need to burst as it keeps the spread down.

In some circumstances, yes. The crouch/scope/burst method works at dishing damage at a pretty solid range, but not sure it is more effective than using your pistol. I use it in campaign and against AI in Warzone primarily, but will also do it when supporting teammates in objective gametypes.

i do, the range increased is worth it especially in warzone

Bursting is a very specific thing, if you’re in close against a BR then hold the trigger and aim well and you should win as long as he misses at least once. Its sort of a lost art, Reach had brutal bloom but they toned it down since so its not really as necessary.

If I’m using the longbarrel version at a distant target yeah. Up close just trigger down.

I normally burst fire 3-5 shots with every press

In theory it makes sense, but in practice I just think people are fooling themselves. If you are far enough away that you must burst fire to land shots, if you just switch to your pistol/BR, your kill time will be faster every time. Unless you are just using the AR for fun or to change things up, then I could see it. Otherwise, precision weapons are there for a reason.

I see the exact opposite.

I do, and it helps a lot, especially getting headshots at range. Basically every time you individually shoot the AR the bullet goes dead center, and if you hold it down the spread is pretty noticeable. You can test this out on walls.

I only really use the AR to save ammo when starting out on Warzone. To clear out the home base, I use my AR the whole time, this way I have 48 rounds in my pistol to kill Spartans with. I have switched to it a few times in Arena, rarely for close quarters, or because I’m out of ammo in my main wep.

I tend to start burst fire if a target is running from me and I’m trying to finish them off as they get farther. Switching weapons or running dry and having to reaload will cost me too much time and they’ll get away. Controlled bursts maintain accuracy and therefore conserve ammo and can usually finish them before emptying the clip. So it’s a rather specific scenario, but yes, I do use burst fire with the AR. I do it a lot with the Storm Rifle too.

I use it. As others have said here, it’s better done when using long range variants…

Lol I don’t use it period. Not in any halo cept CE(in single player)

Depends on the situation. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don’t.

No way! If I’m in a firefight with someone, every bullet counts and I hold that trigger down until they’re dead or until I run out of bullets and have to switch to secondary.

And as others have said, if they’re further away, the pistol is way better.

All you have to do is stand near any req station and your base weapons get refilled with ammo. I always run past one leaving home base.

I must be in the minority, but I really enjoy using the assault rifle, and sometimes won’t even switch to pistol or BR unless I need to. It fits my play style of getting up close and personal.

When I use it, I actually try to fire single shots by rapidly tapping the trigger. I can get a pretty decent rate of fire, and it generally allows me to be more accurate than the people who just hold down the trigger and has allowed me to win many one on one duels. It doesn’t always work perfectly if someone gets the drop on me, but if we start shooting at the same time, I’m pretty consistently able to drop a player that just holds down the trigger since many of their bullets just fly past me and my rapid trigger tapping usually lands my shots home.

The temptation to just hold down the trigger and “spray and pray” is high, but I’m so glad that this game actually has an assault rifle that has nuanced levels of usage that can be used by skilled players as well as new players.
