I very rarely play ffa, but there is a tournament coming up that I would like to do well in.
From the few games I played im assuming once I die and spawn I need to head to the other spawn with some decent cover along the way. It seems like the ar is a stronger choice for a weapon than the pistol unfortunately. So should I move around the map with a pistol out and if someone appears on radar should i pull the ar out? Maybe crouch with the ar at times? Should I primarily play defense on hot spots, and power weapons?
The maps are
truth
regret
stasis
So what would you do on these maps?
For truth I think I would need to lock down a sneaky with a br and try and get picks?
For regret would I need to keep rushing plasma caster and overshield?
For stasis would I need to sit on shotgun spawn with a br and get picks until rockets and overshield spawn?
I have good aim, but map movement and strategy is crucial if I want to do well. Are there any ffa pros in here. I was placing in the top 3 against onyx 1900-2200, but they had better map placement and I kept getting out done by ar.
I know this can be a bit cringey sometimes, but it might be worth looking at Luke TheNotable’s video on how to perform well in Rumble Pit. It might give you some of the knowledge you will need to do will in your tournament and you might learn some things about map placement and weapon use. Good luck with the tournament

Thanks I will have to watch this definitely. Going from team based playlists to a free for all playlist that is so inconsistent is going to be tough. From the few games I played I would see people dominating one match and then at the bottom of the leaderboard on the next.
Try to limit sprinting. That is what helped me the most. Always have your gun ready
My most important tips:
- Limit Sprinting
- Get Power Weopons and Be aware of when they spawn
- Replay your FFA game plays and see where you mess up ( Another Very Imporant Tip )
- Don’t Force a Challenge and chase kills. Let the kills come to you. Now this is a difficult one because there are situations were you don’t wanna just sit back ,but defensive is a good idea while playing.
- Map/Situation Awareness. If you hear somebody in a gunfight near you. You can try to pick 1 or 2 kills in that fight.
I am in no means a FFA expert but I am just spreading what helped me and allowed me to improve. If you go on YouTube, Luke Thenotable and BBK Dragoon have GREAT tips
hope this helps and plz MSG me on how it goes

Thanks man. Yeah I try to limit sprinting as much as possible in this game because drawing a gun takes forever. Im going to have to work on #2 because I dont know the spawn times. #4 isn’t too much of a problem since I usually avoid those situations in most gametypes unless its necessary. #5 is a great tip, I am going to play defensive for the most part, but when i spawn im going to try and get a defensive position close to the opposite end of the spawn where the battles are.
Really I think im going to have to use my ar a lot more and let kills come to me for the most part and choose my battles wisely. I think its just going to be more of being in the right place at the right time and winning most of the battles. Im going to have to check those guys out. I appreciate the post.

RUN FOREST RUN ! NOBODY IN HALO 5
My only advice is to play semi-defensively. Stay near the walls and try to pick off guys from a medium range.

Those three particular maps the pistol and dmr/br/carbines do the best imo… the AR does well for fighting your way to a rifle in some cases. Also don’t necessarily rush power weapons. As some use them as bait for ambushing or they are always just chucking grenades at them.
In FFA, the enemy will come for you…lock down a room and stay on defense with a power weapon. (even an SMG would help)
dont go in the open! and dont sprint!
i will genearlly move somewhat slowly around the map, usually around the perimeter as i have less places i can be shot from.
depending on the map, and WHERE on the map I am at i will usually stick with just the AR and/or pistol. if i have a chance to pick up a dmr or a br i will pick that up, but i don’t really go out of my way to do so. i also move slowish, i dont sprint and i dont use my thruster unless my shield is about to break in close combat

So on regret should I lock down a sneaky and use ar when they push and use the br for picks? On that map its kind of hard to keep your back to a wall and also get kills.
Would I do the same thing on truth or would I be better off going p2 and waiting for guys to put a few shots in people while they push in and I clean up?
For stasis would the dmr spawn be a better spot to sit at or shotgun. With shotgun I can watch middle heavy, but on dmr I can watch one door and the right or left side and possibly get picks with the dmr.
I play FFA quite a lot, and even though I wouldn’t consider myself an expert, this is what I learned:
- The Magnum is still better than the AR overall, as long as you get headshots.
- Use your Spartan abilities to their full effect. In a lot of the maps there are secret routes that can be used to get to places fast, so you surprise your enemy.
- Listen for enemy Spartans. It can be hard because you make a lot of noise yourself, but after enough time you can be able to hear a Spartan come up behind you, especially if they are running.
- Throw grenades into hotspots. It will make it look like you are there, and enemy Spartans will be attracted to the noise. Plus, you might get lucky and get a free kill.
- Keep your cool. FFA is very hard to win compared to team gamemodes. Your W/L ratio will probably drop, and maybe your K/D radio. Try not to worry about that, since you will only get frustrated and make mistakes if you’re constantly thinking about your stats. If you lose, just take a deep breath and realise it’s only a game, and one match doesn’t really matter anyway.
I hope his helps, and good luck with your tournament.

> 1. Use your AR when you are close enough.
> 2. Swap your AR for storm rifles/SMGs whenever you are near them
> 3. Try to get power weapons, but its probably not the best idea to rush in there right away.
> 4. Maybe learn how to nade the weapons to yourself with plasmas.
> 5. Either 1 put yourself in a place where you can see most of the action around the map and respond to hearing shots being fired nearby so you can steal a kill.
> 6. Or go where the the majority of traffic is, you may die a lot but you’ll probably get more kills. Death’s don’t matter as much in FFA.
> 7. Splinter nades.
Very good tips. If the matches are 10 minutes long what times do the power ups spawn? 7:48, 5:48, 3? What are the respawn times for weapons like the shotgun/hydra?
Don’t be a tryhard and play Ffa is the best advice anyone could ever tell you.

> Watch a bunch of Vetoed’s FFA videos.
Watched some of his videos just now. He plays really aggressive, but defensive. It looks like he goes from areas of cover to cover to find people in between while at the same time only leaving the front of his body exposed. He does a good job of keeping his back covered as he moves across the map. He still utilizes sprint and thruster, but he is very smart about it. Very good map movement on stasis. Truth and regret might be a different strategy, but for stasis he was moving around the map like a pro.
Check out Vetoed’s FFA videos, lots to pick up from them and entertaining to watch while you learn
Link Someone beat me to it haha.
My main point would be learn the spawns.
Start timing Overshield (whenever you see it get taken, or take it yourself, subtract two minutes from the time and remember to go and get it at that new time) But learning the spawns is the main part.
A tip to make this easier.
If you’re in a game with semi decent competition, you know the OS will be taken within the minute it spawns, so all you have to remember is the seconds, BECAUSE you know it will be up at 11:xx, 9:xx, 7:xx, 5:xx, 3:xx, 1:xx.
Knowing the exact second is very helpful but if you’re not sure, don’t stand on the pad wait nearby.
If you know roughly where people will be coming from it’s a huge advantage.
I used some of the tips and placed onyx. Hit number 1 in a game full of onyx 2200’s and a 130 champion. The hardest part for me is camping one spot out because I can sit it one spot for a minute and everyone will be on the other side of the map.
