I still play a lot of Score Attack and sometime Arcadefight online from time to time, but lately I’ve been tinkering with the custom settings and discovering all kinds of fun combinations to keep Firefight interesting, at least from an offline standpoint. I’ve made things like Gruntpocalypse with Mythic difficulty, a Snipers game type where you fight nothing but Jackal Snipers, Brute-pocalypse, and many other crazy combos.
I hope 343 brings this formula back one day, because it sure holds weight, at least for people like me that like to get creative when we’re given the right tools.
Anyone else still mess with Firefight settings?
I do! One of my favourites is to set it to Legendary, make the enemies really dumb and all Hunters, make myself invincible with bottomless clip & infinite ammo, and off I go! While it’s not really for getting cR or achievements or anything… it sure is satisfying to ram Hunters with Ghosts like you could in CE! And of course, bonus round with so many Hunters coming at you…what a trip!
I’ve yet to mess around with the settings much further, but that’s probably because I stick to one particular “mode” of Firefight for awhile before deciding to change XD
I tweak my settings sometimes to make myself a little more resistant to damage, unlimited equipment usage (for sprint), and a few other small adjustments and see how many assassinations I can get in a Legendary setting.
I used to make myself invincible on legendary difficulty to complete challenges but I’ve never thought of your ideas I might try them some time.
Oh yeah. For a long time I played with the settings to try and come up with new modes that would fit into Score Attack, like and improved version of 2x Score Attack with 2 rounds, mixed enemies, and dropships enabled for every wave. It’s more fun since you get more vehicle drops, and you also get the Pelican that drops off a Warthog with an AI gunner on the 2nd wave, something you can never get in Firefight matchmaking these days.

Look in my Reach Fileshare for the Custom Firefight Gametype called ‘Hunters Vs. Hunters’ . This is the custom Firefight gametype I created to help relieve stress and have fun at the same time in Custom Firefight when I created it years ago. Recommended that you play this gametype on Heroic Difficulty or Higher. The Black Eye Skull is the starting skull to encourage use of the Gravity Hammer, Hunters and only Hunters are your enemies, you play more or less like a Hunter, and in later rounds, skulls like Mythic and Tough Luck kick in.
It’s fun to smash something that can survive and swing back, yet you having the chance to either dodge or tank the hit without always dying. Challenging, yet fun, this is the ideal Custom Firefight Gametype for me.
Edit: The Rolling Thunder sound of the Reach Gravity Hammer is also an additional incentive, and I will say this now, unless you are on Beachhead, you will likely not survive the Bonus Round with this gametype as it gets rediculous, so if you don’t stay up the 90 seconds, it’s kind of expected, but if you do, that is impressive.
