Does anyone else miss being part of the UNSC?

I’ve brought this up before in a previous post that, thematically and gameplay wise, in the Bungie Halos, we were very much part of the UNSC.

We fought side by side with Marines. We participated in UNSC operations. We served under people like Keyes, Hood, Holland… Keyes again. But it didn’t just show in story, it showed in gameplay.

Think of all the times playing a Bungie Halo when you’d link up with some Marines, and then take them through the whole level with you. You gave them all best weapons, sometimes willingly carrying a magnum so that you could have infinite ammo sniper support. Maybe you gave them names (until Reach just straight up told you their names if you made friends with them.). Maybe you were like me and you restarted from last checkpoint if Corporal Bollowitz, the Immortal Warthog gunner, died in front of you.

Now? I don’t even remember seeing a Marine in Halo 5. And the one’s in 4 were just sort of… there. Does anyone else miss the Marines? Does anyone else miss being a soldier?

I may be mistaken, but I believe the creation of the Spartan IVs also started the new Spartan Branch of the military. This could explain the lack of non-Spartan personnel in Halo 5, among other factors of course.

They just don’t make em’ like they used to…

I felt this too, halo felt like it was humanity’s fight, but the recent halos focus more on developing the cheif and his relationship with cortana. Playing 4/5 i was always thinking where is the unsc presence. You didn’t fight along side marines in 5 for story reasons but it’s like (in the main games) the unsc is just twiddling it’s thumbs.

Yeah, Spartans are their own branch now, but even still, Infinity should have more than just Spartan and Navy personnel, right? Unless the Spartan branch straight up supplanted the other branches.

I mean, Palmer says “let’s support those marines” but I’m pretty sure Spartans outnumber Marines in Warzone.
