Does anyone else hate the new radar?

I can’t stand the new radar system. 18 meters?? I can’t tell you how many times I was looking around corners and checking my radar for enemies, not seeing any red dots, then BAM!! Spartan charge to my back. I fell like I’m constantly getting attacked from behind and people seem to be popping up out of nowhere.

I get it, some of them could be crouching, but it seems to happen far too often!!

The thing i hate most about the new radar is that you can’t see red dots on the edge of the radar. Thats right, people will literally appear on your radar with showing on the edges first

It’s absolutely annoying!! Don’t even get me started on how many times I’ve been splattered by a ghost because it didn’t show up on the radar. It shows up just in time for me to turn towards it and see it coming full speed!!!

…Why would you turn around to stare if you saw a vehicle about to ram you?

U will get used to it. I felt like I was being mystery killed and Spartan charged up the -Yoink- every 30 seconds for the first week I had the game. Not anymore.

I love it. Crouch walking and camping with power weapons is one of my least favorite aspects of classic Halo. The smaller radar distance combined with the fast movement eliminates that. No longer are teams able to camp to control the power weapons. Crouchers have to deal with a lot more risk. Now it makes sense to look all over the map and not just rely on the red dots. 343 did the right thing here. It keeps the action moving. If radar was expanded, there would be a lot more camping.

Yeah, this. Used to happen to me all the time but not so much lately. You start to get a feeling for where people are on the map as you play more, it just takes time & awareness, learning the favourite crouch locations & spawn behaviour.

@OP
If the adjustment is tiresome, I would say just try to pay attention to where your teammates are & what they’re doing, rather than worrying about what the enemy is doing directly. Even if your teammates aren’t using mics, their positioning and movement will indicate to you where the enemies are going to be… and you get access to that information for free!

It’s not as bad as I thought it would be. However, what I miss are the ^ and v below the dots to show if the enemy was above or below you.

I just hate radar, period. Outside of FFA you have a team with a voice, open your mouth. But to have it as such at least allows players to push more freely with less creepy crawly slow down.

I actually prefer it. I rely less on radar now and think more about positioning and map movement. It also allows you to flank enemies more easily.

I hate it too. Absolute no need for it to be 18m. You might as well not have a radar. For those of you who hate the radar there are playlists without it. For those of us that like to use it (80% of Halo population) 18m is not good enough. I’d even be happy with 25, maybe 22, but 18? No.

I hate it a lot too

I don’t like it at all.

Checked the arena stats for those who liked it. And everyone except Danger Pig who didn’t claim he liked it, but has gotten used to it has a negative K/D spread.

Those who hate it has mostly positive K/D spread. If there at any time there was a questionare at 343 studios, and it came out like this thread. It would defenitley be a reason to make the radar smaller simply because casual players enjoy it more. But that is such an odd choice, because it seems to me that its harder for casual gamers to enjoy the games simply because of all the other choices made to make the game appeal to hardcore halo players: aiming is difficult, a lot of movement, power weapons are hard to use.

Who knows, maybe they wanted to make a good theater clip to share on file share…

Yeah I can’t stand the new radar. Half the time I swear it never shows the person coming that just shoulder charged me from behind.

The games feels mindless. You can look in circles for 20 seconds. The second you take aim you are getting bent over. I’m getting to the point that I can’t justify spending time in arena. Halo 5 is becoming nothing more than making one routine play after another. The big exciting plays are all but gone. Idk… I think expanding the motion tracker would allow players to actually make informed decisions. It might bring back actual map control. It might gives players some protection from people too often spawning behind you.

Agreed… spartan charge and the bad spawns makes the incompetent radar even worse

I don’t pay attention to the radar anymore since it’s pretty bad.

I miss the arrows that were attached to the red dots that alerted if someone was above or below you.

Yes but I am trying to adapt. A lot of people like it because it makes you pay attention to your surroundings. I disagree with that beacause you are playing a first person shooter. There are things you can’t account for like peripheral vision and other senses, the radar balanced that in my opinion.
