I played my 10 placement matches in Halo 5 today, and my results are Platinum in FFA and SWAT, and Gold in Slayer and Team Arena. However, 7 wins in SWAT, Slayer and Team Arena, yet I got Platinum in SWAT and Gold in Slayer and in Team Arena. And, I won 4 matches of FFA, yet I got Platinum. How does this ranking system work?

I’m not sure. I liked the 1-50 system much better, personally.
I think once 50, it should do rating / top 200 champs.
I’m don’t know how it works myself but many others have said that it takes in account your past ranks to calculate your current rank. But again not sure.
Wins doesn’t matter. All on individual skill and who you’re beating. If you win against golds it means nothing. But you really get what you deserve. They made it harder to rank higher which is good because I see so many bad Onyx’s. They don’t deserve it
i think in the pre 10 games they let you fight first against players which were ranked the same as you, if you win you will be grouped with better players if you lose you go back to your current rank, thats how i think it works but i’m not so sure
I’m thinking they take previous months performance into account. Also, the rank of your opponents comes into play I think.
im also guessing they may rank you slightly lower than what you’re capable of so you have something to play towards during the season.
but what do I know.
I think the ranking system is based off magic and how much 343 likes you. But that just might be me being cynical and because I’m bad at this game.
I have no clue. I think they literally run a random number generator!
But based on your ranking from the end of last season, you sure got a bump up while most get booted down.

What they did is break the ranking and matching so that I can get Platinum while running all over Plat/Diamond/low Onyx players, because I get so many matches against high Onyx/Champ teams of four when I’m playing with one friend. How is it good when people can’t get representative ranks, but they constantly play people 2-3 divisions higher anyway? There are still plenty of bad Onyx players, so what problem was solved exactly?
TL;DR The ranking system has only gotten progressively worse since launch and plenty of bad players are still Onyx.
