Does anybody not really like the menu?

While reach was a pretty bad game to be honest, the one thing I did really like about it was the menu. You could actually see everyone’s name clearly in the lobby. I don’t like the whole shuffled card pattern or whatever you’d like to call it. It’s cluttered and is just an eyesore to look at, and I have to turn my head if I want to read peoples names clearly, and the profiles are a pain in the -Yoink- to look at. It hardly tells you anything about that persons statistics like Reach did.

Personally, I prefer the new menu because it looks and feels smooth.

It is a horrible design. Halo had perfect lobbies. So perfect in fact that most other games use the same thing. I don’t understand why we needed to switch…

They’re incredibly ugly; I really can’t see the reason for changing the layout so drastically, even more so to something inferior like we have now. I don’t even bother looking through who else is in the match during the voting process, whereas i’d do this all the time in Reach and H3.

I can stand it, and it doesn’t bother me too much, but I prefer the Halo 3 menu.

the menus are incredibly laggy for me. maybe that’s not the right term but the frame rates drop a lot and it gets pretty choppy. i dunno if it’s because i’m running it on an original xbox or what (i don’t think there is any hardware differences between the old and new but i could be wrong) the frame rate usually dips a lot when i open the spartan hub (start button) and do things in there. i love the design but it just doesn’t work well (hardware-wise)

also you can’t see people partied up, and it doesn’t really keep parties together that well(not a menu issue though). but i do like that it encourages people to look at the other players more. in halo reach you had to hit right to scroll over to them, now you’re looking at them by default.

My theory is the drastic change in the menus were made in part to reduce the effect of preconceived notions and expectations based on the prior halo games. If everything looked just like the same Halo games we’ve played before, but then you drop into your first game…

“WTF … ordnance?
WTF … killcam?
WTF … I-can’t-be-betrayed-because-I-grabbed-“YOUR”-sniper-rifle?
WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO YOU, MY OLD FRIEND!!!”

Instead you drop in thinking, huh, I wonder what else is different?

That aside, I dislike the sideways names and find that it causes me to simply not look at who I’ve been matched with.

Pro tip: Press X for classic menu view.

I actually love the menus!

They’re ok. They look really slick but I don’t like the lobby menu much.

Wait… Really?

The card view is garbage. I like the list from all other ones much more.

I absolutely hate the new menu. Everyone just wants a list of the friggin’ players, not the card BS. Halo pioneered matchmaking lobbies, now you go and change it? It’s clunky and ugly. CHANGE IT!!!

There’s one thing that 343 just needs to understand, and they needed this advice when they made Reach too.

IF IT’S NOT BROKEN DON’T FIX IT!!!

I loathe Reach, but even I can admit that Reach had the best menus out of any game I’ve ever played. Halo 4’s menu is like an atrocious advertisement for Windows 8.

Yep. It opens roster which quickly shows all gamertags in your game and their lvls.

It only shows your friends iirc.

I definitely prefer Reach’s style.

I also prefer the design and layout of Reach’s commendations and the design of Reach’s medals.

Let’s hope 343i will return to the near perfect menu system that was in Reach.
And it’s actually laggy. I have no idea how they managed to release Halo 4 with an extremely inferior menu system that lags. They didnt have to destroy a great menu system just to put in those cards.

I hate the menu in this game. H3’s menu felt so smooth and simple and nice. Reach’s menu was a little more annoying with the FL right underneath it but it was ok, and H4’s menus are just terrible.
