Does anybody know this about Forge?

In Forge does anybody know if you can “REMOVE” the soft and kill barriers in a stock map? If not that will be a very big disappointment!.

Peace! :fist_right: :fist_left:

As of the build that’s 2 months behind, the one all the YouTube videos are using, nope, you can’t go out of bounds, and you also can’t remove vehicles, weapon pads, or objective spawn locations either. Really hoping they fix these in time for the beta, because it’s absurd that these things are baked into the maps. I’ve already seen a lot of people annoyed about it

I’m all for constructive criticism, but I don’t understand this gravitation towards looking for something to ruin your experience.

It would be cool to have the ability to turn kill boundaries off, but it’s not like the lack there of has ever nuked the experience in the past either.

Question! Have you used forge before? What version of forge have you used and for how long? If not what the hell are you talking about when you say “ruin your experience?” I have been modding Halo stock maps since Halo Combat Evolved.

There are alot of modded maps in past Halo versions. Some of the modded maps are fun and some are not. I run a Custom Game Servers only PERIOD! Nobody sez you will like every modded map. But if the Forger screws up a stock map and some people like and some don’t then DO PLAY THE DAMN MAP! It’s up to the Forger to decide weather the modded map in for prime time our not, It people dont like the map THEY DON’T HAVE TO PLAY IT!! It’s not rocket science!

My question is how in the hell can you say by removing the soft and kill barriers is going to ruin a map when you have not even seen the maps after it is completed

Here is an example of one f many stock maps I have modded and removed the soft and kill barriers and put them someplace else to make the map bigger.

MAP: Valhalla

Now you don’t like the modded map I made it’s real simple DON’T PLAY THE MAP!!

Getting out of the map was such a Halo 2 thing that should’ve never been given to us because now that’s truly what we want in every Halo. To see the outskirts and travel oddly around. Good times…

Halo 3 and Halo Reach, dabbled in Halo 4.

Modding and Forge are two entirely different beasts.

There are shared similarities, but one is map editing with constraints and the other is map editing without constraints.

There’s beauty, fun and functionality in both.

I dunno because I never said that.

I said the omitting of a removal-of-kills-barriers is what you suggest will ruin the experience.

I don’t intend to, never did.

The argument is predicated on the player’s use of Forge mechanics within the constraints of Forge, not what you can do outside of Forge with modding tools.

As an example:

What makes Mint Blitz entertaining is how he can use physics and mechanics within the constraints of the engine after trial and error, not that I can do all of what he does by tweaking the game’s code to do what I want it to do.

Enjoy modding all you want, I don’t want to take that away from you. I’m simply saying that a feature that’s never been present in any iteration of Forge (outside of “breaking” the game from within the constraints of the game) isn’t going to ruin the experience.

Modding =/ Forge, it never has it never will. The two aren’t synonymous but are great in their own separate ways, using them in your argument like they’re one in the same isn’t the way chief.

@Trand0 Here’s the issue with not being able to remove soft ceilings and kill barriers:

Some maps you want to build something tall or have wide open aerial dogfights, like Halo Reach Invasion maps. Also, all the BTB kill barriers are stupid, since you should be able to climb rocks and buildings since we have Grappleshot. We need more high verticality elevation in our maps, but 343 always puts the ceiling too low. You can’t even get up on the triangle on Behemoth, or stand on the boulders in Fragmentation.

@HozerDude Valhalla from Halo Online? Very nice.

Thanks Bud! Yes it was from Halo Online!

When I get Forge and get the H.I. Version of Avalanche I gonna see if I can turn it into
another Halo Online Map called “DiamondBack!”

Peace! :fist_right: :fist_left:

I just know that community members will create some very incredible maps and game modes and look forward to the creativity that the forge community brings.

Kill boundries matter to forgers because we have yet to receive an utterly flat Forge World since Halo’s conception.

So what Forgers do is built a “room” in the skybox in an isolated space. Now the problem with boundries is that it severly limits the max height your “room” can be and that limits your map space.

One of two solutions is to give players an utterly flat map, which I think is coming. Another is remove the boundries and killzones.

Nah, kill boundaries have definitely nuked experiences in the past, most notably exploring outside the map of Campaign/Multiplayer levels like in the H2/H3 days. There were tons of lobbies for doing that back in the day and people would explore for hours, now there’s no equivalent. Granted this is one of the few micro-communities of Halo that wasn’t killed by 343 but instead by Bungie, but still.
