Does a faster internet speed matter for H5?

Does a faster internet speed matter for H5? (Above the minimum) If so how exactly…Considering google fiber

where you live matters a bit more than speed, but fiber would be overkill.

I wondered the same thing. Google is here in Austin and I’m considering it as well.

Bandwidth is not going to make much difference to your experience in any online games. Pretty much any provider these days will give you much more than you need for gaming. It’s all about the ping time to the server. Changing internet provider may improve that but it might also make it worse even if the bandwidth is higher!

They are dedicated servers, so I don’t think the problem is on your end. Not sure, though.

No. Most likely not. I live in Detroit area MI. My parents live just outside of Chicago. Their connection is about 10% of mine. I thought for sure that I would suffer terrible performance playing Halo 5 at their house. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced ping as low as it was in Chicago despite their poor connection. It was like I had a host advantage compared to what I’m normally used to.

Ping is what matters for competitive play. No matter what you pay for Fiber Optic, it’s not going to help you get routed to a closer server from MS. You’re at MS’s mercy no matter what. It’s why you see so many complaints from gamers who want matchmaking to connect them to gamers with similar ping.

Now if cloud gaming becomes a mainstream thing, then fiber optic will come into play…

The server can only push out data so fast, and their not going to make that above everyone’s speeds. If you have decent internet you should be fine.

No, it doesn’t.

If you have an Xbox One, you need fast internet, period.

All these people complaining about disconnects… it’s probably on your end. Dedicated servers mean nothing if you don’t have a stable connection… I was running a crappy old router for the last week and a half (uncontrollable circumstances) and guess what? Frequent disconnects… Now I just got my newer router back today, one that I know handles some pretty high bandwidth, and no problems at all… Smooth as silk.

These newer console require a lot more and send and receive a lot more information than your OG Xboxes and 360’s did… if you’re having problems, it’s time to stop using 5+ year old tech and get a high speed router and at the very least a 30 Mbps connection… 60+ for best results though.

If you have the option of getting Google Fiber, I am insanely jealous. Get it. Right now.

That being said, connection speed is a bit less important than location now. Being closer to the server you’re connected to matters more on dedicated online servers. On games that use the player hosting system, connection is king.

Not really. I usually get lagless matches with my 15mb/0.5mb connection. Ping and Latency matters more for halo 5.
