Do you want to see weapon bloom in Halo 4?

TL;DR at the bottom.

Title for reference forum. I’ll be completely honest. I am fully, 110% against weapon bloom and this is why. Halo all the way up until the release of Halo: Reach, Bungie’s last Halo game, Halo had little to no influence of weapon bloom. A few weapons, such as the Carbine from Halo 2, 3, and ODST had weapon bloom but only within the reticule. It wasn’t totally focused in on “pacing your shots” like Reach weapons try to force you to do. All of a sudden, Bungie for their last Halo game, their “swan song to Halo”, immediately decide “GAIZ WE NEED TO ADD WEAPONZ BLOOMZZZ HURRRDURRR…”. At first during the beta, most people don’t mind the addition of weapon bloom. I don’t recall too many people speaking out against it. To tell you the truth, that’s one thing I regret not doing is speaking out against it. I think many of us who oppose Reach and had played the beta can safely say, that we got caught up in the hype of a new Halo game with “evolved” multiplayer and whatnot. And we got so blinded and distracted by our own nostalgia, that we didn’t pay attention to real game changing, crucial issues such as Armor abilities and weapon bloom. But that’s beside the point.

The point that I’m trying to make is that Bungie leading up until their last Halo game, had successful title one after another. People just couldn’t get enough of it all! Then all of a sudden they just seem to come to the conclusion that for their last Halo game they HAVE to add weapon bloom. And they really shouldn’t have considering that they had 4 previously successful halo titles WITHOUT BLOOM in the -Yoink!- Multiplayer. It was a change that only complicated the Multiplayer experience, randomized everything from simple simple 1 on 1 battles to trying to kill that guy who’s one shot on the other side of the map who just so happens to get away from you because of bloom. During the days of Halo 3, I never saw anyone even suggest adding weapon bloom to the Halo experience! No one! No one suggested it, because not having it in the first place was apparently good enough to keep 300,000 people online regularly and happy whereas with Reach bloom, it can barely hold 100,000 people sane a day.

TL;DR As a wise 3 Legged Goat once said, “If it ain’t broken, then don’t bother trying to fix it.” But for the sake of making everyone happy, my suggestion for you 343 is to add a feature in Halo 4 where when we go to make custom game types, we have the option/ability to toggle weapon bloom on and off from the get go. This way if things go wrong for the Halo 4 multiplayer, the community can fix things for themselves from the start or at least try to.

Mostly, I just want spread, on things like the BR.

However, bloom is still good. If it is on the DMR or Sniper, it could be used as it’s cool down timer for the next shot, whether than affecting accuracy.

If Halo 4 is to survive, then it will have no bloom.

Besides, I’m pretty sure 343i wouldn’t go through the trouble of releasing a TU in Reach that removes/reduces bloom just to bring it back in Halo 4.

NO bloom No spread No randomness, what a concept huh.

tbh loadouts and perks are probably already gonna add WAAAAAAY too many random factors to the game regardless.

Bloom, no bloom, it’s all the same to me.

Thanks for the replies ladies and gents. I updated the OP by the way.

I agree, I just adapt to whats going on. I’m not fussed about bloom or AAs, I’m just hoping that some of my fundamental issues with Reach are fixed for H4; namely the overpowered Sniper Rifle and vehicle health being independent of its driver.

No Bloom,
No AA’s,
No Classes,
No Sprint,
True Skill like in Halo 3 is a YES!

^ basis of a great Halo Multiplayer.

One issue with what you said… “Over Powered Sniper Rifle” WTF!?

Where were you for the last installments of Halo where the sniper rifle has ALWAYS been one to the head, two to the body?? Geeeesss, it isn’t changing now.

Bloom = random shots
random shots = luck
luck = BR battles won’t require skill
Think about it

what does it matter guys, I hate bloom but the little kiddies on this forum will want bloom in the game because reach had it and thats all they know. 343 will put in bloom, 343 will put in loadouts and 343 will put in AA’s because thats what the kiddies want. Save your breath and your money because the developers don’t give two ****s about what real halo fans have to say. Halo reach was such a failure to all the core halo fans because bungie knew that they were done with halo so they tried to attract all the cod fans they could for money. And guess what? It worked

Well, I wouldn’t care if the magnum had bloom, but I think the BR should have a spread instead. Obviously, all automatic weapons should have bloom as well.

I actually really liked the AR’s reticule/crosshair from Reach, so I would like to see it return in 4.

BR battles do require skill. I’ll also admit, a decent connection in Halo 3. But the reason I’m saying we should go back to the BR battles like in Halo 3 over Bloom and DMR battles on Reach, is because with no weapon bloom in Halo 4 and access to a BR again with an improved netcode, pro players from Halo 3 will remember to strafe and all of the other crazy moving techniques they used in Halo 2/3 to win the battle, whereas new players will be able to adapt to no weapon bloom and learn from past mistakes when they lose BR battles. It allows those who lose the BR battles to ask themselves the question “why did I lose? Did I not strafe correctly? Was my aim off on my own? Or did i not jump when I should have or gotten the first shot off?” This way, the player(s) can improve fro there. With weapon bloom randomizing our shots, it’s very hard for new players to learn from past mistakes when they’re being catered to with weapon to save them in close quarters by just spamming.

Not on precision weapons. Anything else is fine.

If they have bloom on any of the precision weapons in halo 4 it will kill the competitive community for good. I hope they go no bloom and never look back

Im fine with bloom, but there is no need for it on a precision rifles. A huge problem with the bloom was it often times rewarded a player for spamming the trigger instead of actually pacing their shots, and it punished those who paced because they got their shots off slower. On weapons like the AR yes bloom should be there because of the AR’s limited range, but on a weapon like the BR it just creates problems and unexciting gameplay. You pretty much have to spam your shots 90% of the time and even if you get a kill, you don’t feel as good because you know deep down that you were doing the wrong thing, but was still rewarded for it.

Nothing feels worse then pacing your shots like your supposed to, getting outslayed then going back into theater to see what you did wrong, and you realize that the other guy was just spamming his heart out.

a simple no

Hitscan BR FTW!!!

why would you even utter the word

The bloom in Halo Reach was there because it made you need skills to get kills,
if the bloom is taken away in halo 4 you NO longer need any skills a little kid can get a kill if theres no bloom, BUNGiE made bloom in Reach because they wonted you to have skills . (you now think im a 10 years old kid because you dont wont to know what true skills are)
Halo CE, Halo 2, Halo 3 Halo 3 ODST No bloom because BUNGiE did not think they needed to give the game the much skills yet, so IF 343i dont make bloom in Halo 4 the game will not need ANY skills to get kills.

BUT! why dont make just another way to search in Halo 4 Multiplayer so you can find gametyps that have bloom and gametypes that dont have? that MUST be ok for the Halo 3 fans
and Halo Reach fans? dont you agree?

you can Hate me as much as you wont for posting this

of course i will this buy the game if it have bloom or not because Halo is one of my favorit games.
