Do you want SBMM in Social or just Ranked?

I think it’s important to make the communities wishes prior to release vocal and I haven’t saw as much on this as I thought I would have. I think it’s important for a game with hopefully as huge a playerbase as Infinite to feel social where need be and equally as sweaty where need be.

Many of us have different friend groups, those that have played Halo with me since the days of CE, younger guys who just want to shoot around and chat, nephews and nieces who can’t land a shot, etc. I have moments where I want to sweat and others when I’d like to try some things out and introduce some new blood into the series. I think the population for Infinite will be healthy enough that we can populate all of the playlists accordingly.

Ranked by definition will list you with players of similar skill, that’s the point. If you’re terrible or new, you’ll be shielded by others of the same skill level. It does what SBMM set out to do naturally.

Social on the other hand should be luck of the draw, best connection, etc. If you’re a middle of the pack player, expect a 50/50 toss up. One match may be against the last MLG team on earth, but when it’s done you won’t match them again thanks to population. The next match could be someone aiming with their toes while laying in bed. It’s completely random and won’t create a similar outcome match after match, it is truly relaxed.

I don’t feel we need two different ranked playlists, just one with an invisible rank. Someone with higher ELO shouldn’t not be able to match with their friends and have a good time because of it, this literally takes the social out of social.

Given the games population at launch, I think we can support a place with it and a place without.

Yeah I think the main issue is with the way it balances is it will go for a 50/50 game so if my friend is Silver and I am Diamond, it will put us against Gold/Platinum players to be fair. While the teams are balanced, it’s an easy time for me and an awful time for my friend.

I think just having pretty relaxed parameters for social is important. Realistically someone who is excellent at the game probably should win about 70% of the time in social.

I suppose the main issue is when people are in social and going like 20-0. It’s really not enjoyable for the other team. Probably why we have no solution to this because it’s such a difficult thing to balance all sides.

Well put. Relaxing the SBMM some in Social could be a valid option for sure.

I really am for a soft SBMM having every game feeling too sweaty puts me off from playing. Im all about the luck of the draw and think thats its more fair not to have SBMM and have it that way. As much as i would like this SBMM isnt going anywhere so i would like it to be a soft SBMM a wider range than having people so close to your skill level. Im happy about ranked being SBMM and social not or realistically a softer SBMM. The one thing im not a fan about SBMM isnt being pitted against similar skill level as you but the time and lag you get because of the way it connects you with the similar skill level the time takes longer to find a game the connections or way to far apart that the servers lag and your ping is way too high. With the old way you can have a good connection, quicker time to play and whatever you get is what you get, rather than every match being frustrating and sweaty.

SBMM should be something solely for ranked or “sweaty” playlist. There are few things more infuriating than hopping on a social playlist and having to feel like I have to pop 25 just to win or have a good time because it partnered me up with people who can barely walk forward or find the trigger button. This makes it sweaty for myself. Not social or enjoyable at all. Social should definitely be luck of the draw. I shouldn’t have to wait until I have a squad of 4 friends, so that I now have competent teammates. I should be able to hop on solo and have a random enjoyable match.
