Halo 4 brought something new for the games, Chief talking during gameplay. This continued into Halo 5. For Infinite, do you want him to talk during gameplay like 4 & 5 or do you prefer him to be silent during gameplay like the OT?
Even back in the day when playing CE I thought it was strange he only spoke in cutscenes. So I prefer he talks during gameplay.
I prefer him talking as well. Although, while his lines in Halo 4 fit his character and the mission at hand, I found a lot of his lines unnecessary in Halo 5. That should be remedied in Infinite though now that the writers are better.
Personally I think it works better for just cutscenes,
h5 with the AI commands I jwas at the point where I wished chief and Locke would of shut up
, H4 was also a bit jarring with the chief/ cortana gameplay interaction
Cortana , Johnson or another relevant character would always provide in game exposition/narration or mission objectives which wasn’t too invasive andi think worked rather well .
yeah. wether its talking to cortana or telling marine allies relevant info in combat while he’s fighting with them, there are limits to how quiet a person can be without coming across as passive agressive. and that aint chief.
examples of old halo moments that could have dialogue: swapping weapons with an ally. asking someone to get out of a seat in a vehicle. reloading or throwing a grenade in combat with allies. initiating combat with allies. Finishing combat. (“All Clear.”) also story stuff should absolutely have talking outside cutscenes.
I always thought that the Chief not talking during the game made it much more personal, like someone said something and I would sometimes respond to that like I was actually the Chief, it’s the same with Gordon Freeman and other “silent” protagonists.
I think he should talk specially if there is an AI with him or a squad. If he is all alone, then there is no point in talking to himself, unless someone talks or communicated to him.

Agreed, Chief is a battle hardened grizzled veteran soldier I do not want him chatting up a storm in Infinite. Only talk when it’s important ya know. My thoughts.

Yeah, imagine Chief alone doing this: a bunch of Covenant dead “what the heck happened here?” or a Guardian rises on the Horizon: “wow, amazing!”. A passage is blocked: " Need to find a way out". Finds a sniper on the ground: “Uuh sweeet”. Throws a grenade at the enemy: “Fire in the hole!”
See? This makes him dumb.
I preferred him talking in cutscenes in Halo CE - 3, but it worked very well in Halo 4. Cortana was dying, and Chief was doing his best to keep her sane. It wouldn’t have made sense to be silent while his best friend suffered. In Halo 5, he only really talks to what remains of Cortana again. Even with Blue Team, he only talks briefly. It would now feel weird to go back to a near-silent Chief again, and the trilogy is supposed to be exploring the idea of Chief not being just a killing-machine but also still being human, despite the Spartan-II Program. So keep him “chatty” with Cortana, but not so much with everyone else.
He should talk when he actually has something to say and it’s relevant to bring up.
One thing I loved about the OG Trilogy was Chief’s speech. Every word felt so badass, and I cherished them. Still to this day I feel chills when he speaks in those games. In Halo 4 however, that feeling changed, as he spoke more often, and Halo 5 just ruined it. Being influenced by Halo from a young age, I tried my best to mimic Chief, speaking only the best, even to this day. I am not saying talking during gameplay should be cut out, but speech should be limited and good writing for Chief will make him appeal to many, as such eloquence is an admirable trait.

Such a great example :D. I would not like to see that happening. The only reason he should be talking is if he is with a squad mate and it is related to story. Otherwise put duct tape over his mouth for the time being and let us play without unnecessary blahs.
I want him to talk as long as he feels like Chief, like in the opening cutscene.

nooo, although chief did have some lines in the original trilogy he was for the most part a silent character, i think that this is the best way to achieve a power fantasy which was the original goal of halo. silent playable characters should come back

It can work, just don’t make him talk all the time. When he talks it has to count.
He can talk just keep it relevant and true to lore . He speaks to marines and his team as well as other Spartans .
When he talked in halo 4 it was good but not so much in halo 5
Yes
I want to hear him talking with brohammer. Cutscenes ain’t enough

Most lines in halo 5 were unnecessary in general, haha.
