Do You Want Campaign Map Exploration?

Would you like easy out of map exploration in Halo Xbox One’s campaign, like Halo CE and Halo 2, or barriers like in every game Halo 3 and afterwards?

Discuss below.

Honestly, in those games, it wasn’t the map exploration that I really liked, it was the hidden areas Bungie’s developers put in, such as the places to hide the skulls/terminals, where some of the Easter eggs are hidden (such as the half naked man EE lol, that one was the best having to rocket jump to and all). Bungie worked on secret areas and unique ways to place there skulls/terminals where they were either well hidden, or you would have to do special techniques in order to get it, such as grenade jumping, rocket jumping, using the grav lift etc etc. I just never saw that in 343i games. Remember Halo 3’s IWHBYD skull, people didn’t find that skull for months after the release, I would love to see the return of IWHBYD and it being almost impossible to find. In Halo anniversary, most of the skulls were easily placed, and weren’t a challenge to me, most of them being right in the open. Example a better place to put the Skull on the POA would have been in the “Meg” room, or actually the glitch where you can get off the POA and the skull would be in endless space, rather than behind some crates. In Halo 4, the terminals just were not that hidden honestly, and they should regain that difficult factor as it did in previous games. In Halo 5, I want to see a return to map exploration, the return of findable skulls/terminals, massive Easter eggs, and special hidden areas within the map (with skulls, terminals and Easter eggs in them of course).

I agree mostly with the post above me, but I would add that in Halo:Reach I really enjoyed fighting my way through those Elites to get to the Tribute Room on “The Package”.
Oh yeah the “New Alexandria” dance club was also really fun.

Yes, I do want some exploration opportunities. I was hoping for some in Halo 4, being stranded on Requiem and all…

But that’s neither here nor there. Point is, I would like to see some more open maps.

The exploration shooter niche is already being filled by Bungie’s Destiny… I think Halo should focus on what it is good at for campaign; creating fun strategical combat encounters on linear maps.

I don’t want to be forced to take the same path every time. It would be nice to have for example the front battle, when you will just pwn everything with a tank, or the infiltration path where you can use stealth and hit the enemy from the inside.

IMO, different ways to play the campaign would add a lot more replay value as long as the feature isn’t over used, like adding 10 different paths to an area…

I’d like optional map explorations, maybe we could have a few side objectives or terminal or even a few hidden Easter eggs a little ways off the path most traveled.

Halo 4 has plenty of “easy” out of maps.

It’s just you need to be playing on Co-op to access most of them or you can’t get much done with them. Also, some of the more obvious ones are a bit complex and/or punishing…

For example…

This guy hit the nail on the head.

Halo is one of the very last liner campaigns, after Black Ops 2 added multiple endings. Games and changing and Halos campaign needs to accommodate for the better.

Halo: CE demo = driving around Silent Cartographer for hours of endless fun and exploration. The more open and free roaming the maps can be the better. Also skull hunting > terminal hunting.

I want:

  • Out of map exploration.
  • Skulls like in Halo 3.

And I also want secondary objectives that aren’t required to be completed to finish the mission. These secondary objectives would increase replay value, and map exploration.
