Do You Trust IGN's 9.8?

When that score was revealed, it’s fair to say that we were caught surprised. And with such high scores for such a big franchise, hate and jealousy will inevitably follow.

In all honestly, i’m not even sure if IGN’s review was completely legitimate. IGN tends to sometimes pull some scores out of their as*ses.

I hope i’m wrong, I really do. I’d like to see all of your opinions. But come on… Halo 4’s score is higher than Half Life 2’s 9.7, which was given by IGN when they were a little more credible back in '04.

I suggest you read the written-review here. Much more detailed and specific, unlikely the much more popular video reviews. No spoilers.

Meh, don’t really care.

> IGN’s review

The answer is always no. They’re good for videos and news but I refuse to trust their reviews since they’re always… well… wrong.

Honestly, I hate IGN and don’t give a damn for their scores. They just seem so damn corrupt (this is just in general, not with Halo at all). I base the game’s goodness on my own experiences, not IGN’s.

no, ign is a money -Yoink!-

I don’t care. I’ll rate it myself when I play it.

If IGN told me grass was green and the sky was blue, I’d go outside to fact-check them.

In other words, no.

Have to play it for myself. Not every review site is giving Halo 4 high scores such as IGN’s. I’ve seen some 5s and 7s around. I think one person on N4G said it best:

“This is the same old HALO with a new and needed coat of paint… The fans are gonna love it, the media its going to forgive its flaws, and the general audience will see it as an average same old HALO!! But guess what?? If you are a fan of the series this game is by far the best, so enjoy it!!!”

If IGN were the only one who gave Halo 4 a high score, I’d say no, no, and no. But since the vast majority of reviewers I’ve seen have more or less done the same, I have reason to trust that their impression was truly positive and not fabricated. This is far more than I can say for some of their other reviews, though.

So my answer would be ‘absolutely’, but not necessarily because of IGN, if that makes sense.

Reach earned a 9.5 so no, I really don’t put much stock in their reviews. That being said from everything I’ve seen I think a 9.8 is fair, but I don’t need IGN to tell me that. 343 did amazing.

Most gaming sites sugarcoat AAA titles. I’m sure Halo 4 is good but not above by a 9.5 by any means.

I don’t trust any reviewer. So no

Not really. Ryan seems like a genuinely nice person, but I feel his review was biased.

Many other reviewers, including small-time guys have given Halo 4 4.5/5, 9/10, 9.5/10, 10/10 etc.

So IGN or not, it’s still getting rave reviews. Still, will see for myself on Tuesday…luckily, it’s that much closer for us here in New Zealand

Yes, mainly because every other critic on the planet is currently giving it similar scores, minus the dolts who hate on every big name franchise.

IGN slammed MOH: Warfighter, gave it a 4/10 so…

The score I give it is the only one I care about. It’s kind of nice to see, but whether or not the 9.8 is corrupt is of no consequence to me.

Did the review have any spoilers? Like any at all. I’ve managed to stay pretty dark and this close to the game, I don’t like taking any chances.

I can only hope that they aren’t serving us from out of their -Yoinks!-. I didn’t actually read their review, just saw the scores on metacritic. It LOOKS awesome, but I’ve been disappointed by my pre-game impressions before. I want this to be the best game I’ve played in years.

It’s from IGN, so no.
