I know that Bungie & Microsoft came together and released Special Edition Consoles for Halo 2, 3, and Reach

In a sense it did. But it was more of a request for personal opinions. Since nothing has been set in stone about one being released.
Just because there has been a trend in the past doesnt necessarily mean it will continue.
