Aye. What else is left. We have cannon fodder, standard infantry, commanders, and heavies. Maybe we will see the return of drones, but absolutely new enemies?
New subspecies at the most. Like skirmisher in halo reach (which I’d love to see return)

Idk, maybe bigger versions mgalekgolo. Lekgolo can create bigger masses than hunters. Maybe a completely different form than a hunter.

What if the new species wasn’t covenant. Maybe another faction. Less powerful than the covenant remnant though and they have their own weapons.
For species in the covenant… I’m hoping drones (ODST version but reach variants when they explode off a headshot) or skirmishers or new variants of hunters. They are only worms and can create different shapes. Maybe more agile classes. Maybe bigger. Brutes too.
I’d rather the covenant just get back their existing species like drones and skirmishers. I’d be up for new subspecies or new roles for existing species though.
I think the prometheans and flood are where they should really push new enemy types.
The Covenant has a lot of species technically. You had the Grunts(Unggoy) who come in two different forms, the Jackals/Skirmishers(Kig-Yar) who come in 3 varieties, the Elites(Sangheili) who come in two varieties, the Drones(Yanme’e) who only have one form, the Brutes(Jiralhanae) who, so far, have had a variety of appearances, the Engineers(Huragok) who have one form, the Hunters(Lekgolo) who technically have two forms, but can make many, MANY, different forms at will and would be interesting to see more of those, and then you have the Prophets(San 'Shyuum) who have one form. Apart from the Covenant, you have the Forerunners themselves and the Promethean AI’s(Knight, Watcher, and Crawler) that come in a couple different forms. Not much else to add.
Besides, if speculation proves right, Halo 5 is gonna be quite the war with at least 3 or 4 sides. The UNSC/ONI, Storm Covenant, New Colonial Alliance, and the Flood/Precursors. The Didact would most likely be lumped in with the Storm Covenant OR, if some fan speculation is to come to pass, then part of a resurgent Forerunner faction.
So, that’s a lot of enemy types already. No need to add more races to the Covenant.
I would like to see covenant that aren’t necessarily soldiers or members of the military or higher ranks. What about the workers or the average elite. As well as scientists, philosophers, or educators.
But mainly, seeing more of who makes up the covenant and not just it’s fighting force.

No skrimishers. I hate them, they were useless.
Brutes perhaps? That’d be cool, or something at least
