I am a very passionate Halo fan so this has been on my mind for a long time. I know 343i is also very passionate about Halo, but do you think the franchise will last forever? There are many hints on the range the franchise will take. The Art of building worlds says that Halo will be around for decades to come. The instruction book in CEA says that the game is only a taste of what is coming in the next 10 years. And in a lot of the more recent releases like Halo Legends, Halo Encyclopedia and of course CEA, I always see the sentence" we are just getting started". I think the franchise could easily go on forever. There is so much time and events and such that could be used. Not to mention the Reclaimer trilogy is expanding into the future post Halo 3. And the shortstory/motion comic, The Return did the same thing. The first trilogy/ODST took place just over 3 months in the Halo universe. And theres what, over 100,000 years in the Halo universe. I of course know about all the future releases that are in the future. But what do you guys think. I would love to here some feedback!
I’d personally think it will end after another ten years, with the next 10 years, we will see the release of Halo 4, 5 & 6 and no doubt, a few spin off games in between similar to ODST.
The Halo Franchise could live on for a long time past the next ten years, but not with the Chief’s storyline, that looks like something to end within the Reclaimers Trilogy, with Cortana reaching Rampancy, Chief could barely manage for the time in Halo 3 were he had the flashbacks.
I would love to see it live longer than the next ten years though, as long as Microsoft don’t allow 343 Industries to get lazy and just spit out a Halo game every year.
Yes, if it did continue into the future past the reclaimer trilogy, Cortana would probably be dead from rampancy(unless there is something that fixes her in the coming trilogy) and John is getting old. I beleive hes in his mid to late fourties. But who knows. I don’t think 343i is going to get lazy. They seem Hell bint on getting good content released.
There is always the possibility of a Halo movie .Frank did say "We will make a movie when the time is right ".So even if the game series ended Halo can continue in Movies books and other media . I would still rather have a game though .
Though MC’s storyline will probably end with the Reclaimer Trilogy, as long as 343i keeps on making quality games that make sense, too, hopefully the games will go on for a long time.
I could see Halo going on for a while, but I would hope it’s done right. We can easily see regular Halo content for the next 6 years or so, up to the release of Halo 6, likely in 2018. After that, 343 should probably let it die down a little, let people miss Halo, then start a new story Arc with new characters (I think by Halo 6, people will be tired of the Chief).
I can believe that Halo will be around for a while. Though I wouldn’t say we’ll be following the Chief’s story forever. But we can’t really tell right now because the Reclaimer Trilogy isn’t finished, so we can’t really say what will happen next. But, if anything, Halo should be remembered. It helped shape the FPS genre we see today, and helped set a baseline for games, especially Sci-Fi, to come.

@Toa Freak= That would be a preety good idea maybe one day. 343i could keep putting out other content like novels, comics, etc, while the games hault for a while and something epic releases later.

Well, nothing ever lasts forever. That being said 343i has around 100 millenia worth of stories to tell and avenues to explore. This is definitely a reason I love this mythos so much. Halo (if you take the time to explore it) has a very rich fiction. Who knows what we will or won’t see after the Reclaimer Trilogy concludes.
I just want to see Halo end up like Star Wars, or something like that. Even though Star Wars does not make the movies anymore, there are still releasing games, toys, shows, etc. So even if the Halo games stop one day, I hope they still make Novels, comics, movies, etc.

Yeah but thinking about it, if they started a whole new series with new protagonists, I’m sure they’d use Chief as some sort of historical figure or monument of heroism. Somewhat like how the Forerunners are looked at now.
