Do you think the GH will set a trend

To my knowledge the grappling hook hasn’t been in any other fps game.

do you think doom, Shadot Warrior, or maybe even cod will adapt it in their games? Will Halo be setting trends with infinite again.

Dear OP,

Trollpost.

Well as far as I know COD already featured a hook back in 2014’s Advanced Warfare, and it returned in some later titles. As does Titanfall 2. If you look beyond the FPS genre then action games like Just Cause, and to a lesser extent Tomb Raider and Uncharted, have grappling/swinging mechanisms too. So at this point the concept is far from novel, though the Infinite hook’s ability to pull an object into your hands seems to be new (I don’t know for sure, haven’t played that many games).

Doom has the meat hook, which is the best grapple hook you can get for that game since it is made for aggressive offense.

The grapple hook seems to be a copied item to me. But, that doesn’t mean it’s going to turn out bad. I feel it will greatly enhance the experience if Infinite is an open world game.

Is this a joke OP?

No I don’t play that many games

I think halo’s days of setting trends are over, and no, this isn’t a jab at 343.

Things that are new have a bigger chance of well…doing new things. Halo made a big thing out of vehicles, weapon limits, its multiplayer structure etc, and these were pretty much all done in halo 1-2. 3 had forge but other games have had map editors. Halo’s player base has also made it clear they only want small changes, not big changes.

Doom got away doing new things cause it was a full reboot.

The grapple hook will not really be setting a new trend as there are many games from the last few years that have featured grapple hooks and ziplines as a way to get around. While I have not played them I have seen the gameplay demos. Setting a new trend with any game is more difficult than it ever has been before simply because of the volume and variety of games available now. If Halo Infinite does something to set a trend it is going to have to do something that sets it apart from the competition in FPS style games.

it kinda feels that infinite will join and help kickstart the trend towards GHs and (hopefully) will improve the game experience.

It’s possible if it ends up feeling extremely satisfying and people start chasing those style of kills, but I think every game is trying to find its own moment that feels great. I’m kind of hoping the state of video games aren’t just chasing the trends that other games set, but rather find their own feeling that appeal to different people. I’m pretty excited to see how it feels, considering you can use it to board vehicles. Also very happy it isn’t something every player will have at all times during the game, that would make it feel pretty pointless.
