Do you think that that the flood has been completely eradicated? I think that there are still some remnants left of them, probably in a forunner facility or shield world under lock and key. Unless the Halo rings set off some kind of pulse like the mass relays in ME3 i doubt they have been completely eradicated.
The Flood outbreak from Halo 2 and 3 has been eradicated. However, there are still Flood samples on the Halo Installations, possibly in other Forerunner facilities, and possible in other Galaxies.
I never understood why the Gravemind didn’t hedge his bets. I would’ve been tossing spore meteorites to and fro long before following MC into the rupture in Halo 2.

Simple: If Truth had been allowed to activate the array, the Flood would have been wiped out. Canonically speaking, it was only because the Chief had help that he was able to get across the bridge in time to deactivate the Array.
there are still many samples spread throughout the galaxy on forerunner installations. plus the forerunners didnt know the floods origins and it may of returned at another point in time, hence the reason for samples
Do you think flood spores could be released and return as an enemy type later in the trilogy?
I’m pretty confident that the Flood will return in Halo 5 and 6.
I’m totally aware of that but from a tactical position as the Gravemind you could still break off spore and launch them into space on the assumption of two possible out comes and a third conclusive ending. The two outcomes would be
-
Success in stopping his enemies, but still being destroyed on the other side of the rupture.
-
Success in stopping his enemies, but being trapped on the other side by the rupture being closed.
The 3rd conclusive ending would be the firing of the Rings resulting in starvation, but the end of his enemies as well.
These three outcomes still provide a chance for survival for the Flood.
-
With the defeat at forge world and the GraveMind’s destruction, taking the steps to make sure his spores survive by ensuring they have left the theater of combat and sphere of knowledge of his species would be a high priority. Space is vast and full of plenty of ignorant species to harvest in order to grow and reform as a vast intelligence for round two with humanity and the forerunners rings at a later time.
-
Starvation but access to the Forge world for a limited time on the outer edge of space between the Milky Way and the Approaching Andromeda Galaxy. Excellent time to one gather intel and two launch spores at both galaxies to ensure survival. Time is on his side, especially in Andromeda.
3rd conclusion. Rings fire but Rings are still intact and contain Flood samples. The Battle ground is reset in his favor with all enemies eliminated and over time new species will flourish and make the same mistake on discovery of the Rings.
Seriously the Gravemind should have been firing off chunks of himself in every direction since gaining consciousness in Halo 2.

The Gravemind was also under the impression that, even if it had, there was something on the Ark that could have finished him and all traces of the Flood. Remember Cortana’s statement in Halo 3:
> A way to stop the Flood without firing the remain Halo rings
As far as the Gravemind knew, his best chance for survival was to head straight for the Ark and do its best to try and stop this final solution.
I don’t think the Flood have been completly eradicated. Like others have said there are many, many samples out there.
I will say it will be a nice hiatus from fighting the Flood in Halo 4 but I’m positive they will be making a return later on in the Reclaimer Trilogy.
I’m willing to bet the main reason the Flood are out of Halo 4 is because of the Promethean’s. 343 wanted to put more emphasis on theme than having the Covenant and the Flood make a return together. But I’m also willing to bet the Flood will return in Halo 5 and 6 along side the Promethean’s and the Covenant. Epic 4-way battle.
No. I think we’re just getting started.
I’m going to go with both a yes and a no on this one.
Good writing would say that the Flood will never be seen again because the writers are more creative than that and shouldn’t have to go back to something that we already played. The Flood is gone because it would be like replaying Halo 1-3.
Unless I am wrong and the writers are already creatively bankrupt and the first game with the Flood’s reappearance will be my last Halo game purchase.
If the Flood do come back. It wouldn’t be until after the “Reclaimer Trilogy” and the writers would have to be very careful to avoid rehashing.
The Flood we’ve fought thus far was released by accident.
The Flood that was actually intended for release is something we’ve yet to seeThere’s more out there.

^ This.
Also, what Guilty Spark says to Master Chief when he says he’s going to be activating Installation 04-B:
“Then we are agreed! A tactical pulse will completely eradicate the local infestation…”
local infestation
The Flood has not been completely wiped out. And I had a discussion in another topic about the Flood, and it appears there truly is no way to completely wipe them out anyways.
I really do not want to fight the Flood again. It would just be a complete mirror image of the of the first Halo trilogy. If the Flood do come back i hope they done in a completely different way, like Precursors infected with Flood spores.
I don’t think we’ve seen the last of the flood. It’s only a matter of time…
We’ve only delayed the inevitable.
> I really do not want to fight the Flood again.
you have no idea how much I agree with you, but I don’t completely understand what Cortana’s “solution” was it just a -Yoink–ton of sentinels? If that was all it took, then why didn’t the forerunners just do that? It sounds a lot easier, and a hell of a lot less destructive than the plan they pulled off. Did they just not have the time to pull it off, or did they just not consider that option?
