There has been some recent speculation that Halo Wars 2 will be less like the “traditional” RTS style that Halo Wars went for and more akin to Creative Assembly’s Total War series. This speculation was sparked by a tweet from Creative Assembly’s twitter account which features 4 images of development, the 4th being a top down perspective with large numbers of units much like the Total War games.
What do you think of this? Could this be so? How do you feel about it?
I for one love this idea, a Halo style Total War game would be stunning.
In regards to the picture. I don’t see units, only lots of purple/pink dots which could be anything. Some part of a particle effect system, visual representation of a lightning system being used or a shader system.
If those are units, they’re either placeholders or the camera is high enough to represent them as dots, like SupCom and PlanAnn. However, if that’s the case. The central structure is humongous.
Now, if they are placeholders, abd every dot represents a unit. That’s one mass amount of units. That would mean the ground texture is quite out of scale, unless there’s some massive vehicle which made those tiretracks in the sand.
Now for a Total War version of Halo? I don’t think it’d suit me that much. I like to play with infrastructure and build and rebuild my army. Although at the moment I don’t think it’ll be a total war like game.
I for one would love a Total War Halo game but i don’t think they will make it too smilar to how Total War is. That’s just how i feel. I want both types actually. A Total War Halo type and a Red Alert 2/CnC/Battle for Middle Earth II etc but much bigger, wider, more fleshed out, more units and more. Even a mix of those two types would be very cool.
All in all. I have high hopes and expectations from CA. I am sure they will do a great job and i can’t wait for Halo Wars 2.
You can expect and expanded control list and HUD options probably, but nothing much out of the ordinary. The game is based more on the console, so we can be sure that the controls will have to feel good while holding an controller.
However this is CA we are talking about and if they get something right, its the amount of control you have over your units / troops / stacks. There might even be different UI’s for both the PC and XONE version.
This is pure speculation. From the picture in the bottom right corner, this may mean we are going to be able to build bases freely, the base of that structure is red maybe indicating it isn’t in a suitable place for building, I mean, if it was going to be a set base where you can only build right next to it why put it in the middle of the road? Still hyped nonetheless though!
They do not need to change really anything besides I guess some characters and new units because its a new story, but game play they had it spot on for a console RTS with halo wars
I’d rather they not make it like the Total War games. In the only Total War game I’ve played, Shogun II, the game is turn-based when you’re on conquest map and building things takes “X” amount of turns, and then when you get into battles they’re real-time. I’d rather not have that type of gameplay for Halo Wars. I would rather they place the players on one big battlefield, and build structures/units in real-time and send them into battle.
As for building structures freely, while I liked that, part of what made Halo Wars fun was making that mad dash to the nearest open base slot in order to expand your production capabilities. If you can build freely without the restrictions of build pads, then you get a cluttered mess of structures and turtling in a single fortress rather than trying to defend multiple bases.
I like the world map view in Campaign. Like a big view of the continent or planet with commanders representing the different garrisons and groups of units. I also love the diversity of units and commanders, it’s very in depth.
I highly doubt it’ll be like Total War. This isn’t Total War: Halo, guys, it’s Halo Wars 2. CA has made good non-TW games before, like Alien Isolation.
I highly doubt it. This is Halo Wars 2, which presumably is building off the same foundation as the original which wasn’t even remotely like Total War.
I hope not. Total War works great for classic warfare in which giant units stand in the middle of a big open, barren map, and attack each other. I was kinda hoping they would add some more dynamic stuff like Marines taking cover, and more cover in general on the battlefield.
