Alright, do you think halo 5 will have balanced and varied weapons in the retail game? Not just BR all the time but also not AR or other weapons all the time. Varied exciting fun gameplay. What do you think?
I believe so. That was made pretty obvious in the beta. Even though they’re making changes from what we played in the beta, they’ve made it clear that they don’t want Halo to be a one-gun-game … and neither do I.
I’ve played the beta, and I was satisfied with what I saw; there wasn’t a single weapon that I didn’t want to use. The Assault Rifle is stronger than ever, and of course people still cling to the BR, and I’ve seen the Lightrifle get some attention. Hell, every time I was in a game on Empire I rushed for the SMG, it’s as powerful as Halo 4’s SAW when you use smart-scope. No one in Halo 3 or 2 would want to use an SMG, unless they had a deathwish or were just messing around.
As for the Covie and Promethean weapons, I can’t say yet. Not for sure. The only non-human weapon in the beta was the Lightrifle, and I hope that the others don’t get the chopped-liver treatment they’ve been getting.
Also, just a heads up. Aim-assist has noticeably decreased, so aiming in Halo 5 will be harder and will take some practice.
I think the AR has shown clearly that it won’t

Lemme guess, because it’s actually making the game difficult for BR one-gunners?
So let me ask this question and not get completely smashed with hate please as I have not been able to play the beta. Compared to Halo 2 Anniversary game play, how different is it? I have been playing H2A as that is the newest game out and have been playing it for about a month now, and the only gun I ever see anyone use is the BR, sniper, shotgun and rockets. No plasma rifle, no SMG, no assault rifle, no needler nothing. Mostly BR’s. Do you think this will be radically different in H5?

I hope so. I saw a lot of variation in the beta and a bunch of babies are crying for everything but the BR to get nerfes so it can be like what you described. Personally, I like it LEAGUES better than H2A, and am already loving the weapons and how they’ve been tweeked. That hydra and lightrifle man, ooooo jebus. The guns are one of the main things I’m looking forward to.

Lol, no. Because it’s unbalanced as hellllll. Seriously, the thing shreds through armor like paper mache

Good. So it’s like the BR now.

Seemed pretty fair to me. considering how fast a BR can kill you I’d say it was pretty good. Still took like 3/4s a mag to kill someone.

I’d say that Halo 5 is a faster paced game than H2A. You spend a little less time looking for enemies and more time fighting them. It takes a little less time to kill an enemy when you start firing your weapon, and it’s easier to patrol maps with sprint, thrusters and clamber. Many teams stayed tightly packed, even though most people didn’t use mics, so teamwork will be much more important in Halo 5. Anyone who doesn’t have a mic ought to get one soon, if they plan to play Halo 5.
The people on these forums make me almost not want to acknowledge that Halo 5 is balanced because their idea of balance is so -Yoinking!- whack.
But yes, I think Halo 5’s sandbox is ‘balanced’ for the most part.
Except:
-The Lightrifle is pretty much a straight upgrade to both the BR and DMR.
-The DMR doesn’t have much of a point.
-The SMG is arguably too powerful.
-Hydra was pretty lackluster, at the very least needs a projectile speed increase when fired from the hip.
Question about map size. How large have maps been scaled up in the past to accommodate sprint? Does anyone know the most accurate percentage? I don’t know how well this would play out, but if there was ever an editing kit for any halo that had sprint or that I could make sprint in it, I would scale the map down to the normal size of a halo 2 map or heck even a halo 3 map and see how sprint would be on a normal sized map. I like faster-paced gameplay but not so fast to where its like quicktime action with literally a nanosecond to press a button.
We don’t have that data, but if I had to guess I’d say 125%, well for Truth anyways.
As for gameplay, the aiming feels very little like any classic Halo I’ve experienced. There’s almost zero aim assist, what feels like significant acceleration, and modest magnetism. It’s like you’re gliding your crosshair around trying to land it close to the enemy, then letting magnetism take care of the shots. I don’t know how to really describe it, just feels so different.
But is it fun?

Most fun I’ve had in a while. It’s hard to say whether the amount I played it was genuine or just because the beta was temporary, but I played that thing for almost all of the days for atleast an hour, and I had a blast, and considering I only played destinys beta for a few hours I’d say it was pretty genuine. However, there was something really frustrating though, like dying was aggravating and excruciating for some reason, maybe because in the beta I ALWAYS got paired with people who were a low rank and I always fought a team of higher ranks, so it was basically 1v4 plus trying to compensate for my potatoe-brained teammates deaths. Infact, in one of those scenarios everyone on my team quit and I was fighting higher ranks, but I no longer had to compensate for their deaths, so I demolished the other team. The beta made me WAY better at halo, especially since I had less aim assist. The feeling I got from singlehandedly smashing the other team, oh boy, I felt like a halo lord, I felt like little boy John bearing those grown odsts. It was awesome in the true sense of the word. Also, breakout is amazing, it’s like “what if swat wasn’t a gametype for cod kiddies and actually required skill?” I love it. Grenades are obnoxious as -Yoink- in it though, they need to be turned down or made incredibly risky to aquire.

- Its meant to be, its designed to be a semi-power weapon.
- Yes it does, it behaves differently from the BR and LR. it works better in circumstances and worse in others (than the BR).
- Not really, Its good up close but it looses effectiveness at range. I’ve even had people tell me its a bit under powered.
- Hydra was hard to use but a beast if you can use it right.

Truth is a little bigger then its halo 2/3 iterations but I think it works very well. you can still find people easily but there is less chancre of getting spawn-killed.
Josh said they are buffing the magnum, and testing out AR/Magnum starts. Finally, the magnum is getting some love.

Um. Ok. 3/4 mag goes by in seconds considering its rate of fire and 1/4 mag is plenty of room for error. Miss a shot with the BR and you might have pretty well lost the fight. Not to mention you have to time yourself pulling the trigger unlike the AR where all you really need to do is aim (and at a much much larger target).
Higher complexity in handling a weapon should yield higher results. That’s how balance works. Class dismissed
I’ve constantly said this before, but I still think the AR needs to be on par with the BR. H5’s AR is the most powerful AR we’ve gotten true, but it was still a 16 bullet kill in a 32 bullet mag without headshots, of which no automatic guns can get now thanks to BR lovers. In my personal opinion I think that all guns should have headshot damage because a headshot in a headshot, doesn’t matter what kind of gun you are using, you’re opponent is dead. make the AR a 15 bullet kill with only body shots and have a 45 round mag, as well as headshot bonus so with headshots it’s around 11-12 bullets to kill. A BR is 11 bullets to kill. 4 shots of 3-round bursts, but it kills on the 10th/11th bullet. Also make it the same range as the battle rifle just not quite as accurate, close but not quite, so you’ll still have to burst the AR when you Smart Scope. So, the BR has a slight edge over the AR in scope combat, but not a huge edge. But when the reticle is red, at the exact same distance as a battle rifles, full auto will be no problem. So less bloom as well, it should be pretty accurate. Maybe increase the range of the BR slightly, so also the AR. Keep the SMG the way it is and take out the SAW cause that gun’s perfect the way it is. I’d personally make the DMR a 3 shot to rival the Lightrifle because in my opinion there is now way a DMR should take longer to kill than a Battle Rifle.
I’d also make secondary weapons(weapons that go on you hip eg: pistols) switch out faster than rifles/primary(weapons that go on you back) so if a primary/rifle takes 0.30 seconds to switch between, than switching an AR to a Pistol(not vice versa only too the secondary weapon) should be around 0.25 seconds. Makes the it a bit more tactical and competitve. also the animations should be different too, but that’s another whole thing we can get into later. I’d also make the pistol the old 4 shot kill from Reach and kind of Halo CE, but scale the other weapons according to that power so it’s not an uber-powerful weapon. Also bring back the halo:ce pistol sound, or the h2 magnum sound. Just make the gun sounds better in general, the H5 guns sound lame.
Also make the frags grenades more powerful, they’re still too weak and I used them more as getaway tools/smoke grenades. They should be able to take down full shields and down to half health, if they land right by your feet. Perfect frag grenade throw.
My final “fixes” I’d do is take out Ground-Pound, make the shoulder an one hit kill and a bit easier to hit and allow it to happen in the air. Make sprint a little bit faster if you’re making the base speed faster, like sprint should be a sprint but it ain’t that big of a deal. But the main thing is bring back the VISR from ODST/Reach. UP on the D-Pad is not being used at all; so make that the VISR mode and bring in some dark spots on the maps and allow us to have night-vision. I loved the VISR from ODST, it made me feel like I was actually looking through a visor and i was more immersed. For campaign it’ll be awesome, and for MM it’ll be super fun. Plus it’ll allow 343 to a larger variety of maps. They can make one that has some fairly dark areas and you can hide in, and unless the players know how to quickly switch in/out of VISR they’ll get ambushed. I just think it’ll be a evolution in gameplay.
But of all the things, the AR/BR paragraph is more important to me. And the gun sounds.
Sorry for the length, these issues have bugged me since Halo 3. Also make the H2A Campaign BR the BR design. the H4/H5 design looks lame.
