Do you think Firefight is being shelved/replaced?

We haven’t heard anything about Firefight yet, and I feel like we would have at this point when we’re almost only four months away from release.

I feel like it’s being saved for a future season considering how much they want to integrate a story into the Multiplayer and put an emphasis on your Spartan having a role in the universe, and/or it’s being replaced with Spartan Ops again. With the cutscenes being in-engine, it’d be cool to see your Spartan actually partake in events instead of witnessing an entirely different Fireteam like what Halo 4 had to do with Fireteam Majestic & Crimson. Seems like we’re already going to get a few cutscenes with our Spartan in the Spartan Academy, so it’d be cool to see our Spartans’ story evolve in Spartan Ops.

As for the gameplay, give me an evolution of Warzone Firefight. Let us call in requisitions again, just have the (infinite) teamwide selection of REQs change based on map and gametype and the more powerful variants are earned by personal performance. I’d love it if we could call in Marine & ODST reinforcement, and there was a level of dynamism to the maps so we could build fortifications like Gears’ Horde mode. It’d be a great opportunity to see Halo Wars stuff in the mainline games like the Wolverine and the Colossus!

But who knows, they could reveal it in a few weeks and I’ll be wrong. Let’s wait and see

Feels like a pretty asset efficient mode to develop.

We know that campaign has some sort of outpost so seems like bashing those assets together in the multiplayer suite and having it be a mode would be a good way to make content.

it might not be something as up front to them as it seems to us, like, they really want forge and theater in at launch, but i mean, its a live project, they wanna keep updating and adding content, even if they don’t announce it, firefight is an eventuality to halo now, if its not at launch enough people will want it back that they couldn’t resist.

not sure. I feel like if it exists it be implemented with the campaign and or with the campaign purchase. I feel like out of the big 4 (campaign, multi, forge, firefight), firefight is the most optional content. Id want it there but can understand if it’s not

I think it’s going to be reinvented.

Firefight’s inclusion depends on how 343 wants to spin it. Warzone firefight used Warzone maps, but featured a lot of custom enemy types with different attacks and, who knows, maybe different AI behaviors. Honestly Warzone FF required vehicles 90% of the time so I can’t verify, but either way, it required creation of new content.

To be honest, 343 has tried to reinvent the wheel with Firefight twice now, and I’m not too sure it ever needed reinventing. Halo 3 ODST and Reach did it fine, sections of the campaign with a scoring system, weapon drops, and waves of enemies. Firefight really is that simple. Sure, they could incorporate new gametype varients or objectives, both of which we haven’t seen iteration on since Reach, granted Warzone FF is a little bit of an outlier in terms of it’s ‘objective’.

Hell, I think the most exciting inclusion to Firefight would just be flood, though we don’t know if they’re returning in campaign, I’m assuming the Flood likely will. Give us memorable slices of campaign levels with unique encounters based around the different environments we’ll be playing around in campaign. Close quarters forerunner interiors on foot, large open swathes of the larger zeta halo levels with vehicle play at the forefront, there’s a lot of variety you could get in Infinite’s Firefight without really creating a significant amount of new assets. 343 has already mentioned these procedurally generated encounters based upon the weapons/vehicle the player is using, why not let us see how that system behaves in something like firefight?

I’m pretty excited for Infinite, and I hope hope hope hope we see firefight because frankly, especially after a year delay, there’s no excuse for why it won’t be at launch. Like I said, firefight is a relatively simple gamemode to incorporate, it’s light on asset creation and is an amazing reuse of the sizable amount of campaign environments.

I don’t think we will be seeing firefight at launch for Infinite. Same goes for Forge, probably.

As long as its not Warzone. As interesting as a concept as it was, it was horribly flawed in H5.

Since the req system is gone, I imagine it’s not possible to do the warzone firefight version. (Which is great because it’s the worst firefight, to me.)

It wasn’t even the REQ system that really killed it, but more about how points are distributed. I always found that points on either end never really felt earned when it comes to NPC kills, especially bosses like the Warden Eternal or any other bosses with a high value. The whole ‘last bullet gets all the points’ thing always aggravated me. It felt worse than a ‘yoink’ with assassinations when the kill gets snuck right out from under you

Staten said it would be there on launch in the Multiplayer Overview Video

That’s sort of a miss-quote. Staten said he’s excited to see what the community does with the game once it leaves 343i’s hands and gets into ours, that doesn’t necessarily mean that Forge will be available at launch.

It’s a good question - but with the implementation of bots I think it’ll be down to the creativity of the community. Look at what we’ve done with MCC and modding.
I really hope that we get the same level of acces/modding for Halo Infinite.

Fair, but the few times they have mentioned Forge makes me think it’s coming at launch. I would be very surprised and disappointed if it wasn’t there on launch, ESPECIALLY after a year-long delay and DelHoyo saying the game is will have a “content-complete” launch even though launching without Firefight & Forge would be even less content complete than Halo 5.

I really cannot see Forge missing launch, Microsoft brought on Certain Affinity after the delay and Skybox Labs has also been helping 343i develop Forge, there’s no reason for it to miss launch unless it is so ambitious it has to be a separate release or something.

Halo 5 launched without forge and firefight, even without infection haha so just as incomplete if it did, I guess
