The flood is overtly a “Rip off” of John carpenters the thing and Ridley Scott’s Alien.
Like basically everything else in Halo, it’s heavily inspired by all popular science fiction before it.

These kinds of conversations are so reductive when it’s like you could point at so many things in halo already and see a clear line from it’s inspiration.
I’m shocked to this day that there’s very little acknowledgement that elites are essentially the predator mixed with the xenomorph from alien.
The Marines are literally just Jim Cameron’s marines from Aliens. I mean, come on.

The scifi trope of a hive mind corruption organics is not an original halo idea.
In the same way halo didnt invent space marines or power armour.
Then why make the thread at all?
The idea of little bug like things turning people into zombies has been around for ages now.
I made this thread to see what the community thought. I knew that they were to different things but i wanted to see what you thought. (You as in the community) I explained that all in the post.
Fair enough but by deisgn this thread wasnt ever goung to bear any fruit/worthwhile discourse.
But tif we took the root element of the OP.
And asked what sort of tropes would the community like to see explored or why then that there would have made for a great thread.

If you can handle dated horror practical effects.
And dead space remake is marvelous well worth playing but a heart racer of a game for sure. Not for everyone

Uh no… The sci-fi marine trope has been widely used and inspired by Jim Cameron’s Aliens. It’s not really a big secret. Obviously Marines are like that. But within the realm of fiction many franchises go to and are extremely open about James Cameron’s Aliens as their inspiration.
I’d argue that so called “sci-fi” marines are just… soldiers. Marines. Troops. Rifleman. I see literally nothing that sets them apart from standard marines despite the time period they exist in. Even their weapons and gear are pretty similar, all things considered.

It’s not an argument, Bungie explicitly has opened up about this many times over the years. The armor, the weapons, the vehicles, the attitudes are all heavily inspired by James Cameron’s Aliens.
Hell, SGT Johnson is literally SGT. Apone. The cigar chomping, black, fiery, order-barking BA.
It’s not up for debate.
