So as a person who isn’t into horror that much when my friend suggested Dead Space I promptly declined but in the trailer I noticed something. As a Halo fan I thought the necromorphs were just flood rip-offs and it lined up the original Dead Space came out a whole console after the first Halo (Halo 1 was on the XBOX and Dead Space was on the Xbox 360) but also it came out after Halo 2 and 3 also! (Keep in mind this is just the first Dead space game.) But more than just looks the lore is kinda the same. A plague that takes over dead tissue. So I want you guys to tell me what you think. I honestly think the necromorphs were just inspired but I’ll let you guys decide.
Also some other things to take in consideration
-Halo 3 which had new flood designs was released in the same month dead space was announced leaving Dead Space Devs almost 2 months to adjust their designs of necromorphs
-The Moni Lisa a beloved piece of Halo lore is often compared to Dead Space and it was released after the original game
Dead Space’s Necromorphs may look like the Flood and behave similarly, but they definitely have some huge differences. The design of the Necromorphs was probably loosely inspired by the Flood, but not copied by all means. Plus, the Flood is a small-ish part of the Halo franchise while Dead Space is centered around the Necromorphs completely.
It is now a smallish part of the franchise. The flood was what the Halo story was all about. You think the name of game is just the name of a flood eradication device. I think ever since 343 took over they kinda forgot about that and now the flood is a thing of the past. That is why people consider the flood a smallish part of the game.
What I was trying to say is that Halo is about Master Chief and and Covenant and the UNSC and many other things, whereas Dead Space is mostly just about Isaac Clarke fighting Necromorphs.
I want to remind everyone that Halo CE created the modern FPS layout of left analog stick for movement and right stick for looking around.
By Proxy, did every single fps rip off halo’s controller layout?
…no
gonna agree with @LITTLE_LEVEL the Flood is the literal reason halo became to be. the Covenant worship the forerunner, and believe a weapon that literally eradicates the flood’s food source is “the great Journey” and will go to the ends of the galaxy to start this. they fight the UNCS because humans Are Forerunner (this is sprinkled about the entire main trilogy, with literally 343 Guilty Spark basically saying “you ARE forerunner” in Halo 3 , which the prophets found that by far heretical and wanted us wiped out. if I had to argue, I honestly feel Chief is like a cup of water that’s filling an empty pool. he IS a big deal in the games, with saving the galaxy several times over. but to me he…isn’t the main character? frankly the UNSC itself is the protagonist? idrk how to explain it. don’t take it as me saying John does nothing ofc. heck what about Arby? don’t gloss over his character arc. the dude was the supreme commander of the fleet that was occupying the ring in CE. dude was a die hard covenant zealot. then turned against them to learn that the great journey was a lie and would kill life So the Flood don’t have food.
You may want to watch the South Park episode “The Simpsons Did It”… Almost everything has been done in entertainment. It’s best not to try and get caught up with “who did it first”… The idea of people getting infected and turning into something is pretty old and has been done many times… Heck there was even a Star Trek Next Generation which was about a very ancient civilization that traveled the galaxy and then seeded planets with the very early signs of life before they went extinct or something (so long ago I can’t remember the details) but kinda sounds familiar doesn’t it? Or how Halo copied COD with sprint…well technically Mario could sprint in Super Mario Brothers on NES so technically every one copied that game.
Probably already mentioned but the film The Thing and Alien is very likely the main inspirations for both the Flood and Dead Space. The whole idea of an alien parasite killing mutating them into this twisted abomination is all over both those films. I haven’t properly played Dead Space myself but from what I saw they are just ripped straight out of the Thing.
Keep in Mind I only at first watched the trailer and I did say I never played the game. Its after looking up lore I realized the flood and necromorphs had many key differences.
