Do you think 343 chose a good time to release halo 4?

In case it didn’t show all of my title, it says, “Do you think 343 chose a good time to release Halo 4?”

So, do you? I’m not exactly sure. They said it would be released on holidays 2012, which probably means December. That means that a new COD game hasn’t been out for that long. This could potentially decrease the number of people that will buy Halo 4 if the new COD game is a success. Then again, if it’s coming about near the holidays, then that means a lot of people will be buying it…

I just hope that they don’t start releasing a Halo every year.

Holiday = November - I think March. I’m not entirely sure. I know it starts in November. November is also the best guess as to when it will be released.

I don’t think timing will be as big of a deal as proper marketing and content that will be in the game.

They need to market heavy so fans of the game who left with Reach will want to see what’s in Halo 4 and hopefully come back =)

They won’t. It took them over 3 years by the time this one is released.

I believe it was Microsoft who said that isn’t the plan with Halo. The only reason its been yearly is because they’ve been working on multiple projects at once and needed to pick dates to release. ODST and Wars released in '09. Reach released '10 as per the standard 3 year dev time for main games. ODST and Wars were spinoffs so they didn’t get the 3 year treatment. Anniversary had been in dev for years so it was on schedule. Halo 4 has been in dev for 3 years so far. Its just a matter of coincidental timing really. If anything, the next Halo game will be in 2014 if 343 decides to do a Halo 2 Anniversary. If not, then 2015 for Halo 5.

I am glad they are releasing it this holiday season. I hope it is before Thanksgiving in the US. I want as much free time as I can get, to play it when it comes out.

I think their timing is going to be great. Mass Effect has already come out, and i’m hoping that the next CoD comes out BEFORE Halo. In the past i feel like games that came out after other do better.

Eh, i think they should do it after Cod. So if people get disapointed with the new Cod, they will see the awsome gameplay of halo 4.

No.

Every year when a new game comes out, I have to wait out an entire summer vacation for it. It was hell waiting for HCEA to come out. One of my favorite things about Reach was that it at least came out right when summer ended so I had something to do (besides school). I REALLY hate the idea of the Holiday release. The only reason that it’s released then is so they can make more sales. If you ask me, thats a pretty cheap tactic. If the game is good enough, you shouldn’t have to be dependent on Holiday sales to make a profit. Granted holiday sales obviously make a lot of money, but still. It’s the principle of the whole thing.

November seems like the best idea for them, as long as it releases after CoD. That way, people will either buy it themselves or have it bought for them for Christmas.

I’d prefer it is they released on September like Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST and Halo: Reach because my birthday is within that month. But other than that, I don’t really have any objections to a near-winter release.

It was hotrod’s fault!!! Anyway I agree with your post, but not yor gamer tag.
If your gamertag has nothing to do with transformers, then sorry.

Yep, but this could also backfire because people with limited funds may be more inclined to buy CoD because they know exactly what they’re getting and let’s be honest, more people play CoD right now. So we’ll have to see how they attack this release strategically.

fixed
