I have over $100 from MS rewards. If I see something I like it’s not coming out of my pocket so I am free to spend it. Free MP, Campaign and hundreds of games with game pass, and reward points. I have never spent less on a Halo game in my life.
I’ve spent money on the Hazop set bundle because to me 9 items for 20$ is actually kind of a decent price, I got the cat ears because I wanted something stupid just to feel like I was playing a Halo game, I bought the Fire and Frost bundle because 11 items for 20$ is a steal, plus I got the iron man colors for all 3 cores, so for personal value, absolutely worth the 20$.
However aside from those I typically don’t spend money on cosmetics, hell if I feel like unlocking something I typically hop onto MCC due to the game actually having plenty of diversity.
So Recon is the only trophy armor that’s valid, what about the Halo 3 katana? That’s a big trophy as well in my opinion. EOD? You got that from beating the game on Legendary which not everyone can do, even if we find it easy.
You’ve contradicted yourself by saying it doesn’t matter if you stand out unless you have Recon, which is super super super selective.
But they don’t, becsuse not every spartan is master chief, their armor in the lore is made to help them in their specializations, like scout is for scouting/sniping, Recon is for stealth, EOD is bomb armor and the helmet is supposed to stop you from getting decapitated, etc.
But I hope you enjoy cavalino, unless you do actually care and you’re just a Mark V/Mark VI fanboy?
No. Armor coatings are terrible. 23 ( 26 or 27 if you pick up the armor coatings and campaign) coatings, that you have to spend $10 on, for 7 months is a GD joke. When is this “players will all look different in this game”? In 3 years. I would gladly pay $10 if I could make my own look color wise.
I really, really like this game but they dropped the ball big time on customization.
I bought one $5.00 bundle because it contained a sandy armor coating but I admit I overspent and regret it now because I unlocked a similar color in the BP almost immediately after because I forgot about it.
You are absolutely correct. All of the armor is completely useless - I use default settings in all of the games and still tend to perform quite well overall.
cat ears. thought they were funny
They do nothing at all I assure you. You wasted money on a free game
its his money why does it bother you?
It’s wasted money. Whatever he “bought” will not affect the outcome of whatever game he is in.
his money. he likes the thing he spends on why does it bothers you
I couldn’t care less about what he wastes his money on - I’m just letting him know that no matter how much he spends it won’t affect his Halo multiplayer experience in the slightest.
honestly idrc if a ftp game has a store or not, thats fine. its just that 20 bucks for one armor set is a buncha crap. 5, maybe even 10 bucks for some more special armor? sure, why not, but 20 bucks? seriously?
i bought the ears but like, aint gonna act as if those things were both 10 bucks
You wasted your money as no armor variants will actually help you in any way
i can pay for a battle pass if that counts , but it needs to be like I warzone where I can earn the next pass if I complete the pass, but as halo don’t have guns as rewards its kinda pointless having a battle pass as its the major draw for a battle pass
getting other stuff is a no
Id rather donate 20 Bucks to a homeless man than spending it on videogame cosmetics.
I bought
- the premium battle pass
- the campaign
I dont buy cosmetics from the store. For me, they dont add any value to my gaming experience.
I will buy
- future battle pass
- story DLC
I’ve been really iffy about it, I think their store leaves far too much to be desired and the bundles are really awful but … the cat ears popped and I’ve wanted them ever since I first saw Meowlnir bot running around. So I dropped the $10 on the cat bundle… but I don’t anticipate paying for anything else until they’ve stopped doing bundles and sell individual items for a much lower and reasonable cost.
I like being able to customize things. Gives it a personal touch. But I’m also an armor nerd and actually like read up on the different variants and gens of halo armor and stuff like that so.
You can like what you want but I don’t think there’s a definitive “should” for how people should dress their own characters. Except for Blue. No dirty Blues allowed. Red Team Only! >:[ /joking
In the past, Halo games have historically rewarded players with cosmetics… reach level XX and you’ll receive ‘emblem/color/armor’, well in Infinite it feels completely different when you have to purchase the reward instead of earning it.

I’ve gotten to level 94 of the battlepass without purchasing a single level and now everything I’ve earned just feels cheap… what’s the point when some kid on my team wears similar gear to me and goes 0 for 15 in the match while I’m 27 and 7… There’s no reward for playing well… Just for those willing to play the game how challenges dictate or for those willing to pay for levels. I often find myself ignoring the objective of the game because I’ll be rewarded less xp for winning the match and more for doing random challenges. Anytime you see someone in lvl 90+ unlocks you just think “geez… I wonder how much this guy spent on levels…”
Long gone are the days of seeing specific armor sets and knowing that player went through hell to get it. Halo 3 did this well with having unlocks like hayabusa only being attainable by getting all skulls or recon with every laso achievement, katana by having 1000+ gamerscore in the game etc… Halo Reach you’d see someone with an unlock that’d cost 1-2million credits and you’d know they’d spent a considerable amount of time in game playing or the pilot skull helmet and know they’d earned 100% of the armor ig.
I also hate the fact challenges are for multiplayer only and are often for the lamest things… it’s definitely been designed to push players towards purchasing challenge swaps since you’ll likely have to use 5 or more swaps to get something that isn’t utter garbage to complete.
It would’ve been nice if we could get one or two campaign challenges… Back in the Reach days you’d log in and see the weekly was something like ‘complete a mission doing LASO’ with a huge reward like 30k credits so you’d either prepare yourself or get some friends and jump back into the campaign. I haven’t touched the campaign once since completing it which is kinda sad.
Its f2p, fair enough there needs to be a way to turn a profit but you don’t need to completely ruin the progression and armor system to do it. Have a store with unique stuff like the cat ears, charms, ai etc but also have a rank/achievement based unlock system that players can’t just circumvent by using their credit card.
I will never forgive them for taking the basic armor color/emblem system and locking them behind paywalls… We should have the ability to change our primary/secondary colors and emblems, leave the monetization for whacky armor/ai & charms… don’t take a feature thats been with Halo since it’s early days and chop them up and sell them back to us for $10/$20 a pop… the introduction of cores and locking off the ability to have cross core customization was also another scummy tactic at further chopping up content and selling it back to the players.

“a lot of our stuff is unlocked through playing the game, and only playing the game”
locks 90% of the customization behind a paywall
