Myself dont care for Cosmetics at all, I couldnt even tell what superfancy Armor you wear if I see it in the Pre-Game Animation Screen (which is btw annoying as hell)
The only Armor ever worth getting in a Halo Game was Recon bei either obtaining it from Bungie themselves or through the (Challenging but fair) Achievements.
I never killed an Enemy in a Halo Game and thought “Hey what a cool Armor!!!”, Spartans should always be Red or Blue and wear Mark V/VI, period.
I’ve spent some money on cosmetics. But only for a few of the HCS armor. Nothing else.
I wouldn’t mind spending more if the store was designed differently. In my personal opinion everything should be made available through gameplay, achievements and ol fassion grinding. The only need for microtransactions should be for people (like myself) who work and don’t have the time to grind away to unlock something. But it should never be forced to buy anything unless it’s for a charity or HCS armor.
I would spend money on cosmetics if 1.) Cheaper 2.) Quality content 3.) the developers actually did something to not make the whole store some cash grab mess.
Only cosmetic i bought was the spade for my helmet. Because 101st Airborne lol
I’ve purchased a couple of the $5 bundles. I like getting to customize my spartan’s armor and look. I’m mainly waiting for the Stormfall helmet and GUNGNIR attachment to become available, as GUNGNIR has been my go-to helmet since Reach. Outside of that, I might buy a couple of the battle passes in the future if their premium unlocks look good to me to potentially have a little variety.
I remember when Reach just launched and there was armor that was in the menus but was hidden from view until you reached a certain rank. When I unlocked the pilot helmet I had people messaging me saying
“How’d you get that”
“Are you a bungie employee”
“Is that a secret achievement”
I still remember getting the best double kill ever in Swat when two enmies were in the top vent room on Sword Base. They were looking at each others armors. One had emiles shoulders and the other had carter’s. I walked in shot both and laughed so much. Even made a clip of it and had it on my fileshare.
Really though! I mean there is an option in the MCC to turn off the new content armors but even back in the halo 3 days it was good having different armors even with the small selection we had back then. I dont think anyone would be happy if we all looked that exact same and had no way to be different.
Yeah, Combat Evolved is really the only game in the series where everyone looks the same. Even as early as Halo 2 you could choose between spartan or Elite. But Halo 3 really was the start of what became pretty much the standard for the series with armor customization.
I made the huge mistake of buying one thing when this Beta was released thinking 343 would give options for both BP players and none BP players and come to find out that 343 is a liar, that their word is not to ever be trusted. They made a lot of false promises to manipulate the player base into believing one thing but their actions showed another prior to the game being released. One of the most disrespectful things they have done.
So I will not buy anything else because I can not stand a company that has no problem literally lying to their player base face.
have never spent a cent in any game buying dress up stuff for my characters. I’m in the boomer camp and i honestly don’t see the appeal in it, but to each their own. I played Halo CE through 3 extensively along with CoD MW Original and what kept my hooked was gameplay, maps, modes, creative community, etc. I play Infinite because the gameplay loop is awesome and addicting, but it has issues that need to be fixed ASAP obviously.
No crosscore despite the Waypoint glitch proving everything works crosscore internally.
No color customization. You know when CoD added bundles they didn’t take away unlockable Camo. And look at how much money Activision is still making off of Microtransactions alone. You don’t have to take away features to monetizes.
Prices are too high for what they’re selling. At least compared to the other games I play.
FOMO based store. I know other games do this too, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t scummy.
Why would I buy a bundle because I want one item? I usually never want everything in a bundle, and don’t want to waste money.
They’re reselling armor I’ve already unlocked in two games I’ve paid for. Why would I buy those?
These reasons don’t all apply to every bundle in the store, obviously, but collectively they’re why I haven’t bought a single cosmetic. And I do check daily. I’m willing to spend my money. Just not like this.
I do not buy certain cometic items directly and I likely would not even if they were cheaper. I bought the Battle Pass though. Given that the game itself is FTP I can justify that to myself (if I were to play for 6 seasons and therefore buying six passes I would definitely getting my money’s worth of a $ 60 title - if I stopped sooner I’d have saved money - we’ll see).
Sticking with only the free options would be too limiting for me personally - although the basic Mark VII with the yellow visor from weaklies and the anniversary green from the Beta launch did look nice enough.
I’ve spent the money needed on the season pass and that’s it.
I don’t see myself spending money on cosmetics until more options are available at prices that make sense.
I don’t mind paying for cosmetics but the current system is still rather predatory and geared more towards pushing MTX sales rather than an alternative for people who cannot spend as much time playing the game as others to be able to have customization options.
I’m 30 levels into the pass and I have yet to unlock a new helmet for the Mark VII core. I just unlocked a single shoulder pad and just recently unlocked a chest piece. I feel like I haven’t progressed at all.
The biggest thing is that I got a $70 Xbox Gift Card for Christmas so I just traded it in for Credits at the Store considering there’s literally nothing Xbox-related that I want.
So far though I’ve only spent like 700 Credits for the Bacon and Pizza charms cause the silliness of it enticed me, the 500 Medic set with the shoulders and thigh cosmetic, with the most expensive being the Maltese Mayhem cause the slide customization for the Sidekick looked way too cool on it and I’ve been using the BR and AR barrels as well.
If I hadn’t gotten the gift card I wouldn’t have spent any money but even with it I haven’t spent it on any of the $20 stuff and am waiting to see if the cost for that stuff will lower. I’m hoping so cause, honestly, that Soldier Bundle was the only thing I really wanted to buy and if it comes back at a reduced price I’m definitely getting it.
I’m at level 64 and I’m still 17 level ups away from finally unlocking the first non-premium Mark VII helmet. And by then it won’t get used for that long as it’s not much further from that point to the Mark VII helmet. I’m not opposed to the store on principle, as I said I’ve bought two of the 500 credit packs so far and I know this just comes with the territory of being F2P, but 343 needs to do a bit better with offering some free cosmetics. This Winter Contingency event is a good first start, a free set of shoulder pieces and a free utility piece. Week 2 of the Youri event is gonna start, we’ll see if 343 reworked that to be better than the first week of it was. Hopefully the next battle pass season removes all the XP boosts and challenge swaps and fills it with only customization items, including some that don’t require the premium pass to use.
Yeah, I don’t get the people saying the store is using FOMO. The game has only been out for a little over a month and I’ve seen several bundles show up multiple times in the store already.
I bought the premium battle pass so not sure if that counts? And I think like 1 weapon skin with sone of the credits it got me. Beyond that, no.
Not opposed to doing so, just dont see one id want. And i already have the armor configuration i want anyway.
Only way id change my armor at this point is if they allow us to mix armor core customizations, and add Cheifs new armor as a core via updating some challenging achievements in mcc/5/infinite ala Vidmaster 2.0
