Do you see Achilles as an achievement or farming?

I can’t help but see anyone with an Achilles helmet as a farmer rather than someone who actually put in effort and achieved it. Not that any other armour is a sign of any achievement other than just luck. But the requirements for Achilles should have been something other than just kills. Now all this armour means to me is a person who farmed.

If there is anyone out there with the Ach helmet who got it without farming, make your voice heard.

Sadly due to the way Achillies changed Warzone, most will never look at it as an achievement. All it takes is a few people to ruin it for all the others, like 12-man Warzone (although I think Warlords is better for 12-man).

Unfortunately, like a lot of things 343i has brought to the table, Achilles was well-intentioned, but tainted by poor execution. When I saw someone with Recon in Halo 3 (before it was given it to everyone), I knew that they either got it through Bungie (very rare), or they got it through completing the Vidmaster Challenges, which took a lot of time, effort, and most of all, positive cooperation.

On the other hand, when I see someone with Achilles, I know that they could’ve got it through “legit” means; the way it was intended to be got. However, I also know that there’s a good chance that they could’ve got it through farming, or joining a Spartan Company that was about to unlock it (or even worse, buying their way into one). As a result, it doesn’t carry the same weight and, as someone who has been the victim of farming many times, just leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Well said. So many ways to get Achilles without really “playing” the game it was meant to be played.

I see it as a quasi neither. I see it as more of a grind. In the long term scope it takes no individual skill and you don’t have to “farm” to get it. Has it been a catalyst for farming? Yes. Is it a sort of achievement in the meaning of achievement? Yes, but it more of a participation award that you get like the ones to the tune of “Win x amount of Games or Play x amount of games in game modes.”

Our SC didn’t do any farming and we got the helm a year to the day after forming. I’m sure some of us ruined games for other players when we had to focus on the later achievements (Marine kills come to mind) but we never had to farm to get there.

I remember being constantly t-bagged when I first got it way way back. It doesn’t happen very often anymore, and I am very proud to say we did not farm to get it. The key is for your SC to focus and be active. 99% of the time I was solo, and pretty much all of the time I play solo now. It seems like everyone who wanted it has it by now.
Needless to say I see it as an achievement. Unfortunately some players means of achieving it came at the expense of pure exploitation of team v solo matching.

achievement I’m not farming. All we need for the armor is marine kills. For me that means hop in warzone and target marines rather then players.

Very very true, I can’t tell how many games I’ve lost since I started focusing Marines.

My spartan company didn’t farm to get it. When the helmet first came out most company’s that had it farmed but now it’s been like a year and a half and any company that is active has gotten just thru play time.
I wish they made more helmets unlockable thru achievements though other than Achilles because it wasn’t very fun to get you just grind for like a year And eventually get it

im pretty sure most people farm it all out. im not a good player myself though. very few people will actually WORK for it.

Since my current company of residence (Adamant) is slowly inching towards the helmet, I see it as dedication and a way to bond together as friends.

I do worry about some helmets being wasted as a result of others already having the helmet by the time we get it.

It depends on how the enemy team plays in that game. Just because they got the helmet, doesnt mean they stopped farming.

I see lots of players that have it who have been laid back and chill. The company I am in will get the helmet without farming. It has been out so long now that I think a lot of companys who play legitimately are starting to unlock it

My old SC grinded for it for about a year, the term “farming” is thrown around way too much.

Well both are true. Achilles is very rewarding the first time. My company is so desperate and are working very hard and most of them are not sweaty players. The farmers are the ones that have sweaty warzone team and have gotten the Achilles more then once.

I earned mine with Fireteam Adamant way back in July of last year. Our main thing was that we wanted to earn it without farming or anything like that which we did. I tend to view it more as a achievement.

My Co. definitely didn’t farm. It took us a long time to get Achilles; work was slow but steady. Towards the end we focused our play to maximize commendation progress (like ignoring Warzone objectives to focus on Marine killing), but we never did Warzone farming or Grifball farming, or held onto a flag in CTF to farm kills, etc.

So I view ours as an achievement.

I mean the actual triple cap farming kind of farming. I actually stopped playing standard Warzone because literally (I am not even joking) every game of WZ was a triple-cap and farm cycle. I am very busy with other things and I play games to chill out, now imagine my disappointment where you start playing and you get the done to you?

OT: Its nice to see some people here say that they just grinded rather than stop low and farm. Some faith restored but I think you are the exception.

That’s my initial reaction too. “Sweaty farmers”. Though I know that’s not true all the time. My company for example has the armour piece and we make it very clear no farming allowed. Close to the helmet now

The Spartan Charge commendation will most certainly be a b****, though.
