Do you really like the Halo 5s Progression system?

I’m not complaining about the ranking system. But to be honest, I don’t really care about my rank or others, I mean there are a total of 7 ranks in halo with 4 - 6 transitions in between ranking up to the next tier. And when you do get to onyx, I personally don’t feel as if I’ve accomplished anything to see my onyx move up from 1500 to 1520 and 1540 and so on, it’s just a number. No one even seems that keen on going to masters.

I mean, back in halo 3 days, if i jumped in a lobby and their was a brigadier or brigadier grade 2 or 3 I was like ‘Hey, this guy must be pretty good at the game’. And then if i jumped in a game and saw a General or even General Grade 4 id be like ‘Yep, I’m gonna get my poop pushed in by this guy… rip’.

Rank (Halo 3 Multiplayer) | Halo Alpha | Fandom If you can’t remember or were too lazy too google the ranks, here’s the links.Even Halo Reach when you were in a game and you saw a Hero or Legend and you were amazed, or the one time you saw a Mythic, Nova or if you were lucky enough a Reclaimer and you had no idea how to react because Bungie would classify the ranking system so the only way you could find out what the highest rank was, was to get there.

Rank (Halo: Reach) | Halo Alpha | Fandom Same thing, If you forgot the ranks or too lazy, or never played Reach, here’s the ranks. And it felt fuffilling to actually rank up in these games, I loved jumping on and seeing that I was a Colonel/Brigadier and only need a certain amount of games to win or CR credits to get to General or what not.

And the SR rank is alright I guess, but same as Halo 4 I could care less about a number, I’d rather show of a badge that says I’m a General then some guy just ruins me by Him having the Noble Badge, when I’m in a lobby and someones SR 110 I don’t think anything of it. It just felt better to go from something like Field Marshall to Hero rather then SR 99 to SR 100…

I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, again to re state this, Im not complaining about the ranking system, I think it’s perfectly fine, However… I am just stating what my opinion on what I thought use to be better and felt like you were actually achieving something.
Or maybe I have the mind of a 4 year old and like the look of the picture/Badge because it looks pretty next to my name, that might be it, who knows.

ive never cared about my rank in any halo game

Why’s that?

I agree with you I always like the named Rank better than the numbered. General gr 4 > SR152

Well, I think the most important are the skills :v

because people used it to bash people, people would cheat to get theres, it caused derankers, people to leave lobbies because the other team had a 50 who may or may not have bought it, and its just a number

Ohhh yeah, true. I forgot all about that, the derankers and pay to rank. I was like, 14 or something when I was playing halo 3 online, so i never thought anything of it. I just thought they were good.

Completely agree with OP. I really dont understand why some ppl get so annoyed at whether they should have placed Diamond3 or Platinum4. As long as you get matched with similar skilled players then surely thats the point of theory behind Halo5 ranks…the problem is the game is so broken that the ranking system doesn’t work properly and matches incorrectly.

I think you are confusing a skill ranking system to Progression system. Reach had a non existent ranking system, but the progression system you brought up is not a ranking system. That was a system where anyone can get that rank good or bad. Doesn’t show any “true skill”, just meant that person played a lot. Similarly with the General and General Grade 4, really they are the same since you had to be a 50 in a playlist to get it. All that person did was (in regards to the Gen 4) play much more to get win points. Nothing different.

You might want to change your title to Progression system, since that’s what you are addressing mostly in this post.

Not a problem! It’s a common mistake, gets a little confusing.

No. I’m not a fan of the SR progression system. I would agree that it was much more satisfying to have named ranks.

I enjoy it. I like unlocking the packs and using my points as I’d like. It makes it seem more laid back. Plus I’m still able to rank up in my individual playlists as I’d like. I’m a fan of it overall.

Well, in reach you could use your points as you liked. I Guess numbers do seem more laid bake.

I just look at the Progression system as a measure of the time and effort I put into the game. The ranking system of bronze, silver, gold, etc. I really don’t care too much about since it can be skewed tremendously by having a team play or going into it as a random. Since the rank is not really skill based (unless you play FFA) it is more based upon luck of who you get teamed with and against in matches. As a random, I have gone on win streaks and raised rank then only to see being paired with or against teams that ended in losing streaks.

I agree that some sort of ranking is required to deal with making “fair” matches and to compare one way in Halo (current or previous) is fine, but there has yet to be a perfect way to do this.

I do agree with SHREDDED xo that it was nice to see a badge beside your name…maybe a holdover from my scouting days? Ooooh…I earned a badge!
