The first Halo 5 gameplay reveal was so bad that myself and most of the people I used to play Halo with just stopped buying consoles. Infinite wins by default.
Halo 5 was a complete thought. Halo Infinite was a daydream.
I prefer competitive multiplayer of Halo infinite, but i hate Aim Assist of controller in this chapter. I would an Aim Assist Like Halo 5 with all weapons and a good balance on MnK too
H5 had vastly more maps, more varied sandbox… but none of that even really matters. It had a stable build with basic physics like collision and shot/melee registration that worked from day one and Infinite still isn’t there and doesn’t really appear to be making progress. So, no contest–H5 was better for Ranked/competitive.
H5 was a little off it’s roots but it wasn’t a bad multiplayer. However, playing last week the 30fps is so outdated it hindered me from playing when infinite is available.
I voted H5, but I think the answer is kinda nuanced. By the end of H5 the pros were only using about 1/3 of the games sandbox, which wasd kinda boring to watch. The only thing that made it hype was crazy thruster outplays.
If Halo Infinite worked as it should and poor design choices got reversed, then Infinite for sure.
These votes are neck and neck, I love that tbh.
I’m kinda waiting for big changes to Infinite’s controller aim assist mechanics before putting much more time into it. What’s your main design gripe (totally out if curiosity)
It’s difficult to really say.
I enjoyed Halo 5 a lot more than I have enjoyed Halo Infinite. The game did feel more competitive whilst still allowing for you to do dumb things like ground pound peoples heads on Coli, or use the thruster for easier ninjas. CTF also felt fun af, and the maps were just better on the design front. I mean look at Truth for example, that map was just awesome.
Halo Infinite is weighed down by a few main elements.
Desync. You’ll never have a smooth experience when the desync is so bad. It’s simply not possible. When you hit someone with what should be a perfect and it doesn’t kill, then you get killed because of it? Yeah, that’s way more likely to make you rage quit the game.
Aim Assist. There have already been multiple videos explaining why Halo Infinite has by far the worst aim assist in the entire Halo Franchise (meaning it’s the least consistent, feels the worst to use and is objectively the weakest aim assist we’ve had which only makes Infinite feel like a bad PC port to console)
Maps / Gamemodes. There’s a lack of good competitive maps available currently. Halo 5 offered far more variety in gamemodes and maps. Infinite simply cannot compete.
All these points lead to massive inconsistency within the game which ultimately lead to people not being willing to invest time. We don’t even know if desync will ever be fixed, we can pretty much guarentee that aim assist will never be fixed since it’s a design choice. Furthermore, it’s boring and repetitive playing on the same maps all the time.
Halo 5, but only because the game was much more conducive to powerful individual skill expression. Running solo in a team playlist was less likely to get me stomped on.
The gun play is better in infinite and the vehicle play is an abomination in infinite…. If they ever fix collision, melee and assassinations then it would be infinite easily… but they have not and who knows if they ever will and therefore sadly this is a toss-up between 5 and infinite… 6-7 years after the release of 5, have they really made It better? Nope, to me it is a wash between the two games…
Change to response curve, aim assist, shield regeneration rate, and poor spawns.
I never thought I see the day we would give Halo 5 a W. but there it is for all to see. ![]()
I’m begging 343. Can they just have a permanent casual FFA slayer mode? I quite literally don’t want to play tiny thing else.
Halo 5 has nicer players. Never remembered getting T-bagged in any match in Halo 5 and I would receive so many invites and added to friends notifications in Halo 5. Absolutely none in Halo Infinite. Also there are lots of people T-bagging in Infinite, like more than there ever was in the CoD games. Though I remember a lot of T-bagging in the first 3 Halos…
wow i actually get the same, sometimes from the other team.
Halo 5 by far.
The Magnum felt good to use although it outclassed everything else but it didn’t promote spammy gameplay.
The AR felt good, once you learned how to aim for the headshot multiplier.
Regarding maps it’s not even close. Halo 5 Plaza (hope they don’t mess it up or make it look ugly) craps on the entire Infinite map pool.
Not competitive but the H5 husky raid playlist was also a lot of fun, especially with some of the insanely overpowered weapon variants.
