Do you notice ?

In all Halo games in almost every mission, we are never really on the ground.
Let me explain, we are never at least we never play ground 100 %%, we are always in height , on a hill, a mountain, a plateau, a space installation but never in a game Halo (except ODST in Free Run) we fought on the ground.
I find it rather funny, Halo 6 would it be the first Halo game that will allow the player in campain to really fight on the ground ? x)

Naw, i think halo 6 will prolly partially take place on a halo installation, or maybe a mix of installation and other strange scenery

i suppose that you could look at it that way; you are still physically on the ground of something however.

Yeah, that’s how I see it. If you’re on solid ground made of dirt, concrete, etc., I’d say you’re on solid ground. But on a ship or something like that… nah.

Technically we never really are on the ground; we’re on a giant rock in space. Chief is on a giant ring in space.

Well you are a super solider that’s part of a space faring organization, it’s not likely you would only fight on the “ground” 100% of the time. Also technically fighting on a plateau, hill, or mountain is still “ground” unless by “ground” you mean flat ground.

Halo 2 also had the streets of mombasa, Halo 3 had some encounters in voi (kenya) just to mention a couple of examples.

Curiously though, all the campaign missions set on earth seem to take place in Africa.

It has to do with the fact that the portal to the Ark is at Voi, so the Covenant focused their efforts there. In the lore, there are some other places that get attacked, like Havana and Cleveland, but the true driving force behind the Covenant coming to Earth (aside from killing all humans) is to get to the portal so they can get to the Ark.

Wide open expanses are more viewer friendly than just having cliffs on all sides. Lets you feel like you are apart of a world.

Covenant focusing force on one place just seems like too much action for one place, at least for ground forces to be there. Though definitely the biggest battles were on space surrounding the earth.

The earth missions are just few in numbers and the first ones are Chief missions, that could have affected the location given Halo 2 & 3 were supposed to be 1 game but it was just too much for og Xbox. The rest are ODST missions which could have been set to similar place as a throwback and to show mombasa with new technology.

So I think its just that the story follows the protagonists.

So, since Chief can only be in one place at a time his sections were set on Africa and Rookies story could have been there as a throwback or just show the aftermath of covenant invasion.

Just as an addition to the lore based explanation.

Technically speaking, about half of The Silent Cartographer, two missions in Halo 2, and almost all of ODST are practically at sea level. I’m not sure how much more “on the ground” you can get in terms of elevation. Significant portions of every game feature boots on dirt, which is what most people would consider “on the ground” so I’m not sure where you get this idea.

I’m seriously confused here, why do hills and stuff not count towards “on ground”? Would an elevation of 1 meter above sea level also count against “on ground”? Does a Halo ring count towards being on a space station? Or do you mean the elevated hills that are there to show off impressive vistas and skyboxes? What about the city in Halo 2, that was totally “on the ground” I guess…

My head…
