Title says it all, from what you’ve seen do you like it? Does it get you excited to play it?
Me like. Much want.
Seriously, though, I love how it looks.
Yup. Equal Starts, no Ordnance, Base Player traits for everyone. Hallmarks of halo right there.
Not so far, no. I know it’s just a visual, but I don’t like the look of Smart Scope. I really don’t like it. Plus, the overly-shiny graphics from Halo 4 are back. I literally couldn’t focus on Halo 4 for more than about an hour without having to stop. The shine really bothers me.
My biggest complaint is sprint. This needs to be dealt with.
I’m not going to comment on the SAs because I haven’t played with them yet.
Equal starts, no AAs, no ordinance, no perks, etc. is fantastic, don’t get me wrong, but I feel like that’s almost a given for Halo.
A toggle option for SS, less shine, and complete removal of sprint? I’d pre-order tomorrow.
I like what I haven’t seen which are Elites in Halo 5 multiplayer beta. Enough said.
Eh, I like equal starts and the Arena focus, but I am not exactly going to give 343 points for doing what should have been the bare minimum from the start. The base player traits look decent, the reticle is back in the center. As for other aspects…
Thruster: The thruster pack seems like it will be alright with balancing tweaks. Unlike something like sprint it can actually be used in combat to create some unique plays.
Sprint: Its sprint, it is and always will be terrible for Halo. It doesn’t matter how many band--Yoink!- you put on it. It doesn’t really bode well that 343 is willing to keep it based on superficial arguments. While sprint is not the sole cause this time around, the maps are already hilariously inflated to compensate.
Clamber: Another solution in search of a problem. Crouch jump did everything clamber does without taking away control to player to do a little animation. It will also inevitably mess with map design. Jumps that would have originally required a crouch jump will likely now require a ‘clamber’ instead, interrupting the flow of movement and combat.
Slide/Thrust: Honestly the shield recharge limitation seem to affect these abilities more than it affects sprint. With the recharge penalty in place I don’t see many player managing to make much use of these.
Ground-pound: Easily the most gimmicky of the new additions. All flash with no substance, like an assassination animation it looks more like a tool to humiliate your opponent, rather than be a tactical option. No good team is going to give up the high ground and map positioning for such a risky maneuver.
Smart Scope: Sigh, I really don’t care for the constantly regurgitated: “its just a reskinned zoom” line. For all intents and purposes it is ADS for Halo, let’s be serious. It doesn’t matter if it has familiar balancing mechanics, the fact is that they have taken what was originally a weapon trait(zoom for some weapons) and applied it across the board as a game mechanic for all weapons. Not to mention it is a complete downgrade in terms of player visibility compared to the OG zoom, the poor DMR.
On top of the announcer who won’t shut up about the most basic achievements, tacky spartan endgame(I half expected on of them to grab their crotch). Between all this and the constant reminders that “the beta is only a small part of Halo 5”, it makes me fear that there are more surprises waiting(such as an abundance of loadout gamemodes).
So I guess TL;DR, I have not liked a lot of what I have seen in terms of a Halo game.
For the most part, yes. 343 seems to have gotten their ideas in check. I like the focus on teamwork, eSports and power weapons.
There are a few things that annoy me, though.
Hitmarkers. In my opinion, they lower the skill ceiling. The flare of the enemies shields and the moment of doubt when you’ve thrown your grenade at a hidden enemy was part of the experience. We don’t need hitmarkers. At all. They provide nothing and only detract. I hated it in Halo 4, I hated it in Halo 2A, I’ll hate it in Halo 5.
There needs to be an option to toggle between Smart Scope and Classic view. While I can understand that it provides no real benefit and there is a canon reason for SS to be there, I still don’t like it. It’s ADS. But I can understand that others might like it. Let me toggle between the newer scope and the older scope on my BR.
Charge melee and Ground Pound. While I can understand the need to mix up the gameplay with new features, these seems a little… useless. However, I’ve yet to play the game, so my opinion might change.
The BR doesn’t sound like a burst weapon. Yeah, it’s super nitpicky.
The sound when you headshot someone. I have nightmares about this. It sounds like someone crunching a plastic bottle.
The announcer sounds metallic. 'nuf said.
I really dont like the announcer. The halo reach announcer sounds so awesome when you get a Killionaire or Unfrigginbelievable, but when I heard the H5 one say Running riot, it sounded too much like H4.
So far, yes. In terms of 4v4 combat, these additions/changes help keep Halo balanced, while innovating in the way Halo 2 and Halo 3 did to change up the game.
I can understand the new scope added to all non-scoped weapons since the game appears to be alot bigger and faster paced. If everyone can just use thruster pack to immediately back out of range of Autos/close quarters weapons, those guns would be useless and give more incentive to use weapons like the BR and DMR.
I would like to see how these changes have an effect on vehicles. Are they going to buff the damage to the weapons since players can move at a faster rate than they’ve ever done before? Or are they going to add more armor to the vehicle to keep them from being free (double)kills? Maybe both?
Either way, these additions are much more in line to how Bungie changed Halo from Halo 1 to 2, and Halo 2 to 3. Some are probably going to be unbalanced, but that’s the purpose of the beta to see what’s too good and what needs more incentive to use.
I am quite excited and optimistic about Halo 5
Well there are things l both like and dislike. I like the graphics, the Spartans talking, and the new armor abilities. The things I don’t like are you don’t get to have your own loadouts, your shields don’t regenerate when you sprint, and the new energy sword: The Prophet’s Bane.

I am glad Loadouts are gone. Halo is supposed to be an Arena shooter, not class-based game. The lack of your shields recharging adds balance to Sprint, I do not understand why anyone would dislike that. And the Prophet’s Bane is basically an uglier version of the standard Elite Energy Sword that adds more speed to the base movement.
