Do you like Unearthed?

I’ve played at least twenty games on this map, won over half, but I just cannot shake my total dislike of the map. I hate the platform from which one team can dominate, with the other team having to expose themselves on gravity lifts just to meet them, the middle of the map feels useless and the rim around the map is so sparse that you can ride round in a Gungoose for ages and get less than five kills. And all it takes is 3 competent players firing on a Wasp to take that out, so they offer little in a legitimate countermeasure. It just doesn’t flow, in my opinion. Anyone else feel the same?

Nope, I think it’s a great map.

I felt this way in the beginning, and I have definitely had some awful games on it, but I love it for the Wasp. I have kept one alive for the whole game. The structure in the middle provides great cover. Plus there’s something very interesting making sounds in the distance. I noticed it when I was checking the map out in a custom game.

I quite like the map, it’s something unique that we haven’t quite seen in any Halo game beforehand. I remember checking it out a few months before it was put into matchmaking and thinking “damn, this map would be awesome to play online”. Definitely one of my favourite additions into the playlist!

I dont mind the map, but I do wish they would remove the spawns from the middle of the map. It seems like every other time I spawn its in the middle where I am immediately gunned down

If the BR wasn’t the loadout weapon it’d be amazing; but because it is as soon as you get to the tower you can shoot anyone on the entire map. That’s something that only the guy with sniper should do, not everyone in the game.

Aside from controlling the power weapons and the Wasps, the map is a bit of a BR fest. Still, a great map overall.

Fair enough, I guess Spire is quite similar in many ways. I was thinking of purely BTB maps without considering the Invasion ones. Good comparison!

It’s one of my favorite BTB maps. However, I wish that there was some way to balance the existing map a bit better so that a game isn’t 100% determined on who owns the top platform.

High ground is always the superior position no matter what balance you try. If you balance it out then that makes the high ground pointless.

id go with what RUL said and swap out the br with the magnum, these maps were made with magnum starts in mind to begin with and the BRs being up top just gives high ground even more of a power position.

Here are some problems with the map:

  • Terrain object based map makes it difficult to move around because of awk clamber physics - Hydra makes the use of Wasps nearly impossible, and I’m an Air Vehicle expert - Spartan Laser spawns where you can use it effectively. It should Spawn where the OS does so you have the Risk vs. Reward factor of dying in the open vs getting to a good position quickly - Fog makes the map fuzzy. I can still see enemies with a sniper or a wasp all the way up or away, but it’s iffy
    Other than that, it’s a well balanced map
