I have to ask, could you see yourself playing Halo 5 and fighting against the meaty, scary, armor-plated Halo 4 combat forms that sound like angry space dolphins?
Personally, I love how they look. Much more fearsome than the old green crusty Bungie Flood but at the same time I miss the old incarnation. Shooting them and watching their heads and limbs fragment off and scatter about the room with a well-placed shotgun shell. Or the little infection form tendrils that used to poke out of their chests… Where did those go? Did they change how the infection process works or what? How are they going to explain that? Or are the Flood forms used in the Infinity simulation just fictional and made up by some “egghead” or Roland for the wargames?
Anyhow, do you think that would do a good job with recreating the Flood using the new art style that they’re going with? I couldn’t imagine how the carrier forms would look with this style. I’m sure they’d be cool but still unrecognizable from the old gas balloons we loved to burst in past games. Though I’m sure in their own way they would be totally awesome.
So to sum it up, I’m totally afraid to see what they would do to my favorite faction in the franchise yet I am excited at the same time thinking of what awesome new take they might have on the most feared force in the galaxy.
I think the Flood Spartans make sense design wise. The Flood re-purposes bodies to suit their own need, so with an extremely durable shell (armor) and augmented body it doesn’t have to do much. I tend to think that the claw is used to crack and pierce MJOLNIR armor to further infect more Spartans and/or infect others easily.
Don’t fix what isn’t broken. Flood looked good originally. If you change them, they won’t be the same unless there’s some story as to why they would be different. It’s like the grunts. Bleh. I don’t care for the new grunts or flood

I used to feel like you did about my Grunts, you see I’m a Grunt fanatic, I’ve got over a dozen Grunt figures on my desk… I love 'em. I hated the new Grunts for weeks until I actually got a Storm Grunt figure. Now I love them, their new design makes so much more sense. They’re thick and stocky looking, after realizing how great they look now I almost dislike the Halo 3/Reach Grunts. They look to thin with small limbs and like the figures I have, they’re top-heavy and hardly stand up on their own.
The Halo 4 Grunts remind me more of the CE and Halo 2 versions, thick arms and legs, more ape-like.
I like 343’s new designs, that’s why I wonder so much about the future of the Flood.

I think what he’s getting at is that he doesn’t give a damn about artstyle as long as it functions.
You have to admit that trading most of the functionality for a different player model is really lame.
I like the art style, but it felt better when it was more of an “alien infection” look than “OMG SPACE ZOMBIES!”.
Please do attempt more than single words messages.
Yes I like the idea that perhaps what are seeing is a glimpse into the future. I foresee Sarah Palmer being an example to the Spartans by being one of the first, if not thee first to be turned into and by an evolved form of the Flood… Remember the Flood didn’t get a chance to take on the humans much 100,000 years ago to a large degree. Our code was altered to prevent infection but that does not mean the virus cannot adapt over time… Time that was not allowed eons ago.
The HUD and effects are great but the gameplay itself floaty and takes some getting used to.
Yeah, I’m really hoping that the other forms look as unique as the spartan combat forms do. They seem to be more armored for battle, so each form might look more exaggerated and showy if they bring them back.
I HATE the hazmat-suit look they force the Spartan team to use.
Why can’t we just use our DEFAULT ARMOR color scheme? It’s not like it’s hard to discern who the enemies and allies are - betrayers and trollers excluded.
Seriously they give us all these customization options, and only one gametype where they’re used: Regicide (which sucks compared to a normal FFA IMO).
At least if they allowed us our default color schemes in Flood and made a true FFA playlist (Regicide should be dropped for Team Regicide), then we’d at least have 2 decent gametypes to enjoy our customazation.
Just my $.02, YMMV.
I think the Flood forms are just OK, but their ‘sword’ is very unimaginative looking and kind of a disappointment.
Keeping in mind that these are just flood infected spartans, I like the new look.
One thing I hope 343 does different with the flood this time around, is give varitations to each species combat forms, instead of the same model per species.
We’ve seen that the flood can have various forms, as seen in CE anniversary’s terminals and in “the Mona Lisa”. It would help break up the monotony of the seeing the same combat forms again and again… and again.
Another thing that would be interesting, but probably would’nt translate well into gameplay, would be different ways of infection. Another example from “the Mona Lisa”, a single scratch from a combat form or a bite from a just turned host is enough to spread the infection. Instead of just the infectious forms latching on to living or dead host bodies and converting them to flood.
