343 will never bring back the good Halo days, they had 10 years to provide a title that worked flawlessly and lived up to the classics and they failed to do so, at this point anyone hoping for anything is fooling himself first and foremost.
Others will say, “but i enjoyed the 343 halos” and good for you then, 343 is making Halo titles, not just any video games, and the obvious thing is that fans will compare the games to the classics.
I have no hope for the franchise anymore.
I’ve lost all for this game and for 343 in general.
Truly a difficult and multifaceted question to answer
-
Customization/progression - No, unfortunately I don’t believe this will ever improve or be fixed in-line with community feedback. I think that Halo is now forever doomed to be a FTP mess. This alone is the most disappointing aspect of Infinite to me, especially when I think about how Halo was once an innovative leader in this space within the FPS genre. Feels like those days are gone and will never return.
-
Campaign - Even though I already liked Infinite’s campaign, Yes, I believe future campaign DLC with J.S. at the helm will be amazing.
-
Multiplayer - From a balancing perspective I’m unsure. From a content perspective, Yes, I think it will take a while but I have plenty of hope in the future of content - if not from 343 then from the community.
-
Bugs/stability- Yes, it might take 3 more years but I believe this game will eventually function as intended.
-
Changes based on community feedback- Originally I would’ve said yes, during the flights and at launch 343 was pretty thorough and involved in addressing feedback and making changes based on it. Since then, I have lost all hope that this will improve, their actions have spoken louder than their words in this area.
Overall, it’s both difficult to have any hope - due to 8+ months of community feedback resulting in the scarce updates received, and few changes to address all of it -, while simultaneously difficult to not have hope in Infinite -due to the sheer amount of potential this game had/has.
I loved this game franchise “Halo” so much
Ploughed hours into it to get better
And it actually meant something.
Now I play a couple of games, chuckle to myself then switch it off and do something else,
Halo Infinite will turn out the same as MCC. In two years it’ll be a fairly stable and enjoyable game but the vast majority of the playerbase will have left and I think this is largely the end of the IP for most.
I’ve given up. I’m only coming back for events now. I’m level 98 in the battle pass. I’ll try and max that this week and then I’ve done season 2 until week 3 of Entrentched plus the one off events.
Super disappointing but modern gaming is just not good enough. Not sure what I’ll do with my free time but certainly won’t be playing Halo anymore.
Voting with your wallets has been debunked,
It doesn’t work.
Abstaining from playing the game does no work as a form of protest.
The problem is the people with low standards continuing to support the game despite all its critical flaws.
It is literally why Diablo Immoral and so many other “free” games get away with player unfriendly design.
Problem is I WANT to be able to enjoy the game,
If I don’t continuously say I hate they way the game currently is,
nothing changes, they only thing they will see is Harmful positive re-enforcement from the players who have minimum standards of quality.
The games industry is going down an extremely toxic path, focusing entirely on whales funding the games after release.
And it needs to stop.
It took them 5 years to fix the masterchief collection and a drop into gamepass, early in its life, to save the population of that game. There is no gamepass surprise fix with a F2P game.
I have no hope that 343 will focus on the right things. In fact, I feel the player base is going to get so small that they won’t be able to claw it back. I’m not talking steam charts - I’m talking console players. The bread and butter of the halo fanbase!
Forge MAY improve things - the community make some excellent maps BUT I feel 343 will sit on these and hope that custom lobbies pull in the slack. We need these maps tested and frequently dropped into matchmaking. I don’t think 343i have even considered putting a team in place to manage frequent drops.
Furthermore- the challenge and (lack of) progression system (xp for kills etc) is non existent this far after launch. Instead the focus on making competitive modes have 2 shot BR melee kills, where every other mode has 3 shot melees, and preventing squads playing together because they’re not close enough in rank, pushes them into playlists they don’t want to play. Furthermore reducing a dwindling player base because casuals want to have fun where they WANT to have fun. But that’s fine - let’s support the high level players and separate them from the pack because they’re supppsedly more important.
Ray tracing is arriving “some time after launch”. Remember them saying that after the botched reveal? Remember Craig’s “choccy milk”? Well they drink that milk and forgot to refill the glass.
So no. Season 3 will suck, it will have forge and nothing to promote the content outside of customs. It will have coop campaign. It will NOT have any online multiplayer focus, what do people play 5 years after a games launch?…multiplayer. Oh wait - here is ONE 4v4 map and ONE BTB map…but we will continue to suck and reason to play them right out of the game.
Honestly I hope they read this and pay attention,
fix multiplayer first.
Focus on the right things.
Otherwise I honestly hope I never see a halo game again; I’d rather compulsion games made halo than have 343i smear their creativity all over it.
But lets make this constructive….
There’s a battle royal coming apparently. Not for me personally, but at least they’re bein my creative
