Do you guys use FOBs at all?

I was kinda hoping that FOBs would dynamically impact the game world, so for example you might have shifting ‘frontlines’ or things like allied or enemy convoys or patrols within their own areas.

I think I’m getting nostalgic for… was it Red Faction Guerrilla? Mining a road then hiding waiting for an enemy convoy to roll through and blowing them to hell.

I think the open world element of Infinite was a bit lacking really, your actions didn’t have a noticeable impact on the wider game world and for me it kinda destroyed the pacing of the story (it’s hard to feel the urgency when you can take a break for 2 hours just collecting shiny things). It wasn’t terrible but it certainly didn’t raise the bar for what an open world game can do.

Yeah, it should’ve worked sort of like Dynasty Warriors and Fallout 4’s settlements.

How else was I supposed to unlock the WASP and play the backhalf of the campaign on Legendary-Easy mode?

Clearly you’re meant to go find a banshee somewhere and grapplejack it for the two minutes you’ll have it before it explodes from getting hit by 1 shot from a stalker rifle and then go do it all over again.

Yeah constantly! Fast travel, restocking my preferred guns, stocking up my marines when we’re about to go get orange mocha frappuccinos!

I mainly used them to restock ammo and as fast travel points. And obviously to reveal activities in the surrounding area similar to how Viewpoints worked in the Assassin Creed games.

Every once in a while when the game started getting stale I’d whip out a Warthog or Wasp to change things up, but that’s about it.

I think they’re painfully boring because every single one is exactly the same… but yeah, I use them to get the super weapons.

I use it to get vehicles quite often and when I’m feeling like a cheeseball I’ll grab a razorback, 5 tracking rocket launchers (or any of the other power/special weapons really) that I’ll trade to the marines in the razorback and watch them completely decimate the enemy forces while I chill in the driver seat

Sniper rifles are also good for getting those Jackal snipers.

He does have a point. There is nothing to do in the open world that would require you to actually “need” to use them. I’ve never seen such a Barbone open world in any game as infinite actually is.

This, like it very much to drive around with some marines

  1. No, you are not missing anything

  2. There is no right way to play it knowing after you beat the campaign 343 basically said do whatever because we literally have nothing to offer you in this Barbone open-world.

  3. My take on it is that 343 needs to get their act together or at least find people that know what they are doing. This is the worst open world I have ever played in 30 years. It shows they don’t have the slightest clue on what they are doing creating an open world.

-No quest
-No objectives
-No challenges unless you call looking for the skulls challenges for the open world.
-No sense of direction for anything at all.

So overall the FOBS are literally pointless at this point.

I don’t think FOBs are pointless. At a minimum they offer you a way to replenish ammo. I mean, without FOBs once you run out of duelish energy sword ammo you might as well throw the thing off a cliff. That said, I do agree the open world feels a bit barebones. Little Fauna, one biome, all the things you mentioned. Open world games may be popular right now, but that doesn’t mean making your game open world is gonna make it better. It takes work, and this being 343s first attempt I think feedback on it like what you mentioned is crucial.

What I mean by pointless, and I could have explained this, but it’s knowing how many there are that it’s like they might as well just have given us load-outs, not to mention there is every weapon at our disposal from enemies dropping them beside having the whatever they are called (the weapon racks) in just about every point you interact with the enemy.

If you really look at it there really isn’t a need for them. It’s not like you would ever run out of weapons and vehicles are another story that is an issue along with the AI. As far as this being their first open world. 343 had all kinds of resources to look into this and other companies that have created open worlds. There really isn’t any excuse for it to be as it is.

It’s almost 2022 for whoever’s sake, and 343 had years to look into this.

I’m probably not going to wait for the next Halo game to be released with bated breath.
Infinite’s supposed to last for 10 years.
Also, I’m guessing VR or whatever succeeds it will be improved or created by then, so the experience is likely going to be very different.

I’d say they’ll probably try getting the content that was cut back into the game.

They’re really helpful on Legendary.
I’d be very frustrated fighting those mini-bosses that can see everything if I didn’t have a way to get unique weapons again.

I’m not sure if that would have helped, and the open-world companies they could have relied on are busy.

I use fobs as fast travel locations. That’s where I get marines, weapons, and vehicles from.

Yeah vehicles can’t go everywhere but fobs help to form your playing style. That being, you can go into battles anyway you want.

Yeah some missions don’t involve fobs and you have to scavenge for ammo if you want to keep your fob loadout.

By not using them then you’re play style is probably a nomad! You live off the fruits of the ring :joy:

Um, it’s not hard to play other games to see what goes on in open worlds like Destiny knowing they stay in touch with Bungie.

They never needed other companies, all they needed was to collect info. It’s not brain surgery that a kid could easily find out that info…

I’m not sure, but there’s probably a lot of optimization techniques and other information that they might know that 343 wouldn’t.
