Funny how everyone who posts this most played has a different number halo is at! Lol
They made a number of mistakes at launch & let’s face it, games like CoD:BO3 are just more popular with little kids & casual gamers. (which is fine with me, keep them out of Halo) It does hurt the population though. A few of the things they did wrong in my opinion…first, they spread themselves too thin at launch. You can’t launch a game with only a few maps in each playlist for the first week or two. You only had 3 maps in your big, new gamemode Warzone. People get tired of the same three maps that play really similarly over & over. Then the Slayer/Arena maps for the most part are all really similar for the most part. Eden looks like Empire in spots. Empire looks like Fathom in spots. Regret is a lot like Midship. I don’t know what they were thinking here. They should have kept the Arena style stuff to the Breakout mode then released Breakout alongside Forge & instead focused on more Slayer/Warzone maps at launch. We’re use to more unique settings for Slayer too, not repeated geometry. Remember Headlong, Terminal, Zanzibar, Midship, etc…they were all unique. There is not that much “unique” in Halo 5, let’s be honest. Even the bases in Warzone are repeated. Also, I don’t know why on earth they only listened to the hardcore people on the forums. I am more hardcore too, but how can you launch a game that you want to remain popular & not launch something for the casuals? All the playlists are ranked. That is absolutely pushing people away. There needs to be a 5v5 unranked social slayer then a fun, ActionSack style unranked playlist as well. They need a few unranked playlists because casuals don’t want to play people their rank all night. They want to match anybody & “pwn some n00bs” too. That gives them the opportunity to feel powerful & dominate & crush some beginners once in a while, making the game seem more fun. Lastly, it’s like they forget what made Halo 2 such a success online & practically started Xbox Live being mainstream. You had unique settings, cool rank emblems that you actually lost, something small too, but you had proximity voice when you were dead that was so fun because you could talk smack & that kept people playing. How many people couldn’t wait to respawn when they heard somebody over your body talking smack & teabagging? There were more lobby features in H2 as well, you could bring party with you to join other parties, we need to be able to see who’s in Fireteams, etc. We need the announcer in Warzone at least calling out Double & Triple kills, etc…there’s so many little things 343i just doesn’t ‘get’ about Halo yet.

Lol this is an ignorant statement to the health of games. I could still find Reach games in under 30 seconds, even with only a playlist pop of 200. It just is a testament to the matchmaking code of the game, not the population of the game.
However to add to the thread, I do think it is dying (not dead, not yet at least)
343 doesn’t have population counters, so one metric I use is twitch viewership.
Which for a game been out ~2 weeks, is rather bleak It hasn’t been in the top 10 since launch, and is barely in the top 25 on most nights. Not good for a brand new game. Just not a whole lot of market interest for the game.
To me though, I just get a gross feeling about Halo 5. There is just something about it that is off, and I think it is turning away a lot of people.
“another game came out this week and people are playing that instead of Halo all the time! Halo is dead!”
Seriously… I’m playing Fallout because it’s new, and it’s a great RPG/Shooter. It doesn’t have multiplayer. When I want to play with my friends or my Company, I jump back into Halo. It’s not that difficult to understand!

Yup I’m on the same situation I’ll back out and start search and out of he 8 players its 4 to 5 ppl I played the last 5 games , which it doesn’t mean it’s dying but maybe it’s just pairing us up with them because of ranks halo 3 in lone wolves i always ran into the same people a lot I hink its just pairing u up by ranks

> This forum is like chicken little. Who cares about the population? What does that mean to you?
Seriously? There’s people that love & care about Halo as a franchise & would like to see it do well again. Also, we do like getting games a lot faster, especially late at night when fewer people are on. I consistently game from 1am to 6am because of my schedule & how fun is it to match the same group of foreigners over & over late at night as I have with other Halo games when the population per playlist dwindled. There were times you couldn’t even play certain playlists late at night because there were not enough people in them. Even if it shows 300 people in a playlist late at night like H4 often did, usually 80+% of them are already in games that are 10+ minutes long, so there is a small number of people around your level or continent searching for a game at once. More people = faster search times & more variety of players. That’s what “it means to me.”
It isn’t dying. But other people are playing new games.
COB3 is the same game all over again and call of duty makes no advanced and have crap tier campaign story.
Fallout 4 is by God amazing. But it’s only single player and when the people finish that. You will see them come back to play Halo which has the greatest Multiplayer system for the Xbox one
I’d say its dying, I’ve already deleted H5, because its not Halo, it feels nothing like Halo and it plays nothing like Halo. I don’t hate the game, I just don’t enjoy it.
