Do you believe 343 is a Trustworthy Company?

Some lies:

“Pioneer: This Specialization will be available at launch.”

“If you have opted out of marketing emails (via your Xbox LIVE account preferences), you would not have received the mail.”

“Players that were eligible for the Specializations post-launch offer but did not receive their fulfillment email due to having an invalid email address associated with their Xbox LIVE account have been sent their codes via the Xbox LIVE Message Center” - I can prove this in so many ways…because of how active my account’s email is used…

“the original offer from Xbox states they will not re-send the codes”

A few more things to consider:
-They blocked content from everonye. (Many were stuck at level 70 for a very long time)
-Lack of Community Support (Especially on the forums)
-They promoted double xp through products, but xp cap you at 150k
-The campaign is awfully short. Seriously, legendary campaign co-op in 3-4hours…(I never played halo 4 until I went to a friends party, and we did the entire campaign in ~3.5hours…I’m like…wait…this is legendary…wait…we beat the game???)
-Forge/Theater has been downgraded. (Many options have been removed)
-Firefight was removed, and replaced with Sparton Ops (they could have kept them both)
-Since this is the same Engine as Reach, they chose not to transfer all the Reach Multplayer Maps.
-They constantly remove/add playlists.
-What happened to user made content? Custom Games? File shares? Used to be HUGE in -Halo 3, and Reach, now it’s like…why waste my time?
-Every gametype, no matter how good you do, seems to give around the same experience. 2-3k or 4-6k with 2xp codes…
-There is no “skill” “skill does not reward you”
-Ranking up through Sparton Ops (casual play) is faster than Multiplayer

Now consider everything stolen from Call of Duty:
-Loadouts
-Xp
-Prestige
-Unlocking Guns/Gear
-Perks
-Spec Ops
-Season Pass
-Short/Rushed Campaign/Game (a 2 year game instead of 4, like CoD)
-etc. etc.

Finally, consider they are using the Reach Engine for this game, meaning in a way this entire game is like an “Expansion” to Halo: Reach, yet with far less content.

at the moment? no, they’ve failed to actually provide for the community, removed halo from halo 4 and force COD style down our throats, falsely advertised the game and even have the cheek to call all feedback not from this site a hyperbole.

[deleted]

Well no they aren’t.

Season pass is an MS gig there hoss, Borderlands 2 has it as well. More games will have it in the future it just makes sense business wise, buy 3 get 1 free.
Also, Reach featured lame duck loadouts that 4 improved upon. Can we go now? Seriosuly, everyday for a month its “this -Yoink- broken.” or “halo 4 is teh Suxx0rs” we get it.

Are you a -Yoinking!- -Yoink- or just a moron? (Awaits another infraction for defending 343i).

Season Pass - WTF?! YOU ABSOLUTE -Yoink!-!
Campaign - WTF?! Yes, it is short but the story is pretty good. IT WASN’T COPIED FROM COD THOUGH YOU…!
Prestige - ? There is no prestige… specialisations are not prestige.

And the other stuff… -Yoink- you. None of that has been copied, they have been used in games since the start. GO PLAY ROGUE YOU -Yoink!-

FFS I am getting annoyed at all these morons posting stupid things, you are one (or more) of three things:

  1. A youth of maybe 14>
  2. A CoD -Yoink!-
  3. New to games

Go play a game like Rogue, or any other RPG or really any old FPS/shooter which uses loadouts, customisation, XP! (WTF?!), etc etc.

I know I will get an infraction for this, and maybe this will get edited removed, but as long as the -Yoink!- see’s this before it does, I will sleep tonight.

Actually I do trust them. I got my code by e mail. My boyfriend who changed his e mail address and all that, just got a message from Xbox Live on his Xbox. Thats just one point I can prove. The rest you talk is…yeah I dont swear here

Edit: We didn´t even had to ask for the codes. They where there. Mine was fast with mail, his took 3 days longer but came to his Xbox with an apology, which was very nice. We knew how much trouble they had with the codes so it wasn´t needed to apology but they still did and thats cool. Errors happen but all this show me 343i and Xbox Live are working this out.

Concerning the last part about things stolen from COD… And god I know I will be flamed for this, but I’ll state my point in a calm way (I respect you opinion, just want to state my own and point out some things) (Also sorry for the bad English), I have to say:

About the loadouts: I have no complain about this one, is not THAT game-changing, it just gives you options about your staring weapon. I for example don’t like to use the BR or DMR, so I choose the Carbine (Letting aside the DMR AND BOLSHOT ARE OP argument). The AA’s are not that game changing, anyone even without their own AA can counter them if they know what they are doing.

A lot of games have XP progression system, it’s not COD exclusive, so that point is actually not very valid.

About prestige… I have not seen anything like prestige here.

Unlocking guns and gear… this is not that game-changing either, any weapon is capable of significant damage (Again, letting aside the OP argument) and is a matter of personal preference. Also with the perks, most do nothing that can actually help you in the middle of battle.

Spec Ops and Spartan Ops are different in the way that Spartan Ops are actual canon missions, and are weekly released content, so different that they have actual plot (say what you say that the plot is bad or whatever, is still plot).

The campaign, albeit short, for me was very enjoyable, every minute of it, and it didn’t seem like a COD type of story to me, and maybe you are just too good for legendary. =3

I don’t know what the etc’s are so I’ll rest my case.

Finally, I trust 343, I have enjoyed the game so far, and while is far from perfect, is still a nice addition to the Halo Universe and I can’t wait to get my hands on their next game.

343 Industries is a worthy company and I have a lot of respect for them BUT the Halo franchise was to big for them and they are overwelm. They can deliver a good product but the company just can’t stand the game as much as bungie used to.

sad because the game suffer of the lack comming from there comunity team.

>inb4 English is wrong… just woke up.

Well, that is not really the point here, is not a matter of who did what first or this will turn into an unbelievably long flaming argument, it’s a matter of “this works?” and for me, it actually works, I can now play the way I want, I’m usually a support type of player, taking things slowly, and with this additions I can reinforce that. I don’t care about the other people’s style, if it works for them, fine by me, I just like to play my own way.

I would be deeply appreciative if you would refrain from speaking.!!!

After what they did to custom games? No, absolutely not.

For $99 I got

-An excellent campaign where you could see the effort and care that went into the game.

-A fun multiplayer that has evolved.

-Spartan Ops, which serves as a nice side story. I look forward to Mondays.

================================================================================

At this point I am I inclined to tell those that do not like it to simply stop torturing yourself and play something that you enjoy playing.

Why submit to the abuse when you could be enjoying another game that YOU think is superior?

Halo does not belong to you. It is the property of Microsoft. If you do not like what they are selling, then stop buying

You have a choice to stop your hearts from being broken. I know that you and Halo have drifted apart. I know that it is not what it was. Halo does not turn you on.

It is time that Halo and you start to see over people. This way, when you bump into each other in a party with your respective new partners, you can be civil and remember the good times.

> -They blocked content from everonye. (Many were stuck at level 70 for a very long time)

And 343 had made clear that they had intended to slowly unlock specializations for the community at large one by one.

> -Lack of Community Support (Especially on the forums)

Because they don’t respond directly, that automatically means they aren’t supporting the community? Responding and doing something are two very different things. A lack of one does not mean the lack of another.

> -They promoted double xp through products, but xp cap you at 150k

And? You can apply the double XP as you see fit.

> -The campaign is awfully short. Seriously, legendary campaign co-op in 3-4hours…(I never played halo 4 until I went to a friends party, and we did the entire campaign in ~3.5hours…I’m like…wait…this is legendary…wait…we beat the game???)

Yeah, when you play a campaign co-operatively, it can go buy a lot faster. For those who went through the campaign solo, it took a lot longer. My first playthrough on Legendary took over 14 hours.

> -Forge/Theater has been downgraded. (Many options have been removed)
> -Firefight was removed, and replaced with Sparton Ops (they could have kept them both)

I fail to see how Forge and Theater were downgraded. Forge changed a lot, but in my opinion, for the better. As for Firefight, Spartan Ops is far superior, and 343 only had so much development time.

> -Since this is the same Engine as Reach, they chose not to transfer all the Reach Multplayer Maps.

This is just ignorant. Halo 2 used a modified Halo CE engine, Halo 3 used a modified Halo 2 engine, Halo Reach used a modified Halo 3 engine, and Halo 4 uses a modified Halo Reach engine.

> -They constantly remove/add playlists.

Based on community feedback and popularity

> -What happened to user made content? Custom Games? File shares? Used to be HUGE in Halo 3, and Reach, now it’s like…why waste my time?

The game has been out for just over a month. User made content, like with Halo 3 and Reach, likely won’t show up for a while.

> -Every gametype, no matter how good you do, seems to give around the same experience. 2-3k or 4-6k with 2xp codes…
> -There is no “skill” “skill does not reward you”

Skill is still a part of Halo 4. Your reward for being skillful is a higher score.

> -Ranking up through Sparton Ops (casual play) is faster than Multiplayer

And?

  • Loadouts and XP are not and were never exclusive to COD.
  • Halo 4 does not feature Prestiging, or anything like it.
  • Again, not exclusive to COD, and Halo 4 doesn’t let you spawn with power weapons unless it’s for a specific gametype
  • Perks are, again, not exclusive to COD and, in Halo 4, don’t have a huge affect on the game.
  • Seriously, you think COD started the season pass business? And honestly, what wrong with the season pass?
  • Halo 4’s development began in early to mid 2009, a full 3 year cycle (likely 3.5 years), and it’s campaign was, by no means, rushed. You and your party rushed through it, which is easy to do in any Halo game (except Halo 2, but that’s another story).

> Finally, consider they are using the Reach Engine for this game, meaning in a way this entire game is like an “Expansion” to Halo: Reach, yet with far less content.

See above about the evolution of the Halo engine.

@ Toa Freak: Thank you.

Allowing Pioneer as one of the default specializations would have been absolutely silly considering how quickly players were already gaining ranks and reaching the cap.

Specialization code issues are problems on Microsoft’s end, not 343 Industries. It was a Microsoft-run promotion, and 343 Industries had to be the bearer of bad news because it was relating to their title and their channels (Twitter, Waypoint, etc.) are the best ways to reach out to the Halo community. 343 Industries only has the raw player data that Microsoft needs to determine eligibility for the promotion.

Competitive skill ratings are coming; I understand that you feel that player skill doesn’t reward you, but consistently winning matches is better for your existing rank than losing. You gain more experience and complete Commendations faster.

I don’t disagree that custom games and Forge have taken a hit, but core elements are there and there’s a solid foundation on which to add more content. I can’t say why Halo 4 doesn’t include some of the features that many players wanted for custom games and Forge, but I imagine it wasn’t 343 Industries’ intention to make these dedicated sub-communities feel marginalized or alienated in any way. A title update, which is certainly coming, will give 343i the opportunity they need to add more features to the vanilla content.

The campaign length was surprising; I was expecting a longer campaign, but the quality of the story is what makes Halo 4 stand out as my favorite campaign since Halo: Combat Evolved; of course this is subjective and I can’t begrudge anyone for not liking Halo 4’s campaign more than any other Halo title.

Elements popularized by Call of Duty were not gameplay innovations pioneered by the franchise. These are frankly features we’re seeing in many titles, and some of them, like the natural sprinting ability, were a long-time coming to the Halo franchise.

The Halo: Reach engine was heavily modified for Halo 4. For a variety of reasons, copy-pasta code is impossible. One does not simply move the code of Halo: Reach maps into Halo 4 and expect everything to work just fine. Catastrophic failure would ensue.

Beyond allowing Films of Campaign and Spartan Ops to be saved, what features are missing from the Theater?

Based on a strict release schedule, general interest in avoiding another Horde mode derivative, or both, 343i did not elect to design another iteration of Firefight. It’s not as simple as it sounds; there’s tons of code to crunch, bug fixing, environment balancing, and other testing that would have to occur; 343i probably lacked the manpower necessary to facilitate developing Spartan Ops and Firefight side-by-side. I commend them for electing to do something new.

Community support is something a lot of people seem to have unrealistic expectations for. Halo 4 was only very recently released, and 343 Industries is working on patches, weekly playlist updates, Spartan Ops content, multiplayer DLC, ensuring Microsoft has full details regarding specialization code eligibility, and other Halo projects. They’re a little busy right now, and I don’t blame them for not specifically dropping by the waypoint forums all the time to address some of the inane ramblings of one of the most entitled video game communities I’ve ever seen.

No Halo game to date has survived launch without some tremendously entitled sub-group of fans deciding that it’s the worst thing to ever happen since cancer, taking to the forums, and overflowing them with negative posts.

But to answer the overall question, is 343 Industries trustworthy?

Yes. I am not disappointed with Halo 4. I wish there were more options, playlists, and that visible skill rating that so many people keep talking about.

I don’t believe they’re inept developers because X bug exists or Y feature is missing or was intentionally avoided. I know the stresses and processes developers have to go through, and I still find the final product to be -Yoink!- fantastic even if there are a few things that ought to be patched.

I have complete faith that they’re observing the community, developing strategies to address what concerns they realistically can, and have taken Halo in a new, but ultimately entertaining direction.
