Do we think assists will return for Halo 4?

Now, there any many things that frustrate me about Reach. Some of the things are so stupid that I struggle to believe that people with vast industry experience and professional degrees could have decided that they would be good. So anyway…

One of the little things that annoys me is how “Assists” work in Reach. Now, presumably they work the way they do so that it was easier to implement the original and abominably bad Arena system based on ‘individual performance.’ Since it’s unlikely that we will see anything similar to that in Halo 4, will proper assists return?

In case you don’t think I’ve explained properly - in previous Halo’s up to Reach, assists were credited to you if you did any amount of damage to an opposing player before they were killed by a teammate. In Reach you have to do 40% of the damage (Or something like that) to be credited with an assist - meaning you can save your teammates lives, do a lot of team-shotting and get no credit for it whatsoever.

A more minor thing really in light of what seems to be happening to Halo 4’s multiplayer, but still something I’d like to see.

Well there was an assist in the first look trailer, so we can at least assume they are returning.

Believe it or not, I prefer the Reach system. I don’t want someone to boast about assisting me with a kill when they only did like 5% of damage on that opponent. 40%? sure! I’ll thank you for helping out.

Every shot counts though. You should be looking to shoot every enemy you can. Sometimes, one shot can save your teammates life - yet you won’t be credited for it.

No-one is going to run around only wanting assists, and just put 1 shot into someone when they could put 3 into them. If you help a teammate kill someone, you have assisted them, and you deserve an assist.

Currently, 3 players could shoot 1 person and no-one could get an assist, when it was clearly a teamshot and they deserved one. Awful, awful system.

If someone did 5% damage, that was probably all they could have done - as I say, why would you stop shooting someone deliberately to get “less” of an assist? It doesn’t make any sense. They still helped you.

I understand what you’re saying. For me, however, the way I am “credited” by helping that person out is by hopefully helping to win the game (please, please, PLEASE 343i make win/loss ratio more important!).

I definitely understand what you mean and I do hate the individualism in Reach, but I just imagine there would be such an abundance of assist medals it would be almost the top medal for everyone.

Anyways, I guess we have to agree to disagree. Still nice to see a constructive, thought-out post on here.

Also, nice chat

Maybe they should put in a damage thing like what was in halo 2. With most of the poeple i play with, i tend to get 2nd place or top place in kills, and lead in assists. theres been quite a few games where i did alot of damage, but nobody was around to clean up.

It’s not about the medal, it’s about not being credited for what you have done in a match. They could easily make it so that any assist counts as an assist, but you only get the medal for a large percentage - or something like that.

I would Like to see a better assist system, did not like it where I did 90% of Damage and some guy comes out of nowhere and does the rest and get the kill.

I would like to see the old system come back. An assist is an assist. If I get into a 1 v 1 with someone and my teammate shoots him/her once just to put that fight in my favor and I win. He/She should get an assist. It’s as simple as that, assisting on the kill should give some credit.

It also goes to show how well youre team shooting. At the end of and H2 or H3 game when you saw that 40+ kills were assisted in a 50 kill game, that was amazing. Good game team nice team shots. In reach it doesn’t show that so well.

This is just my opinion on the matter. Some people might like the Reach system when it comes to an assist. I just personally hope 343i brings back the previous system of assists.

Maybe if they continue with the scores they showed in the first few looks at Halo 4, maybe the score will act as Exp, and will divide evenly amongst the 2 or so players that shot the guy.

I remember watching some MLG game in which one team got 65 assists in a slayer game - the teamshot was incredible.

Reach’s system is a joke - coming out of some games with 1 or 2 assists when you’ve been shooting so many people is just laughable.
